84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
I was going to shoot for the first of the year, mainly because I don't want to derail the blazer any longer. I don't need this truck operational right at this moment so it can sit a while. And to replace the freeze plug requires removal of the starter and I'm not sure I can get the old plug out cleanly so I'd rather not mess with it. I'll replace it before I sell the motor.

I walked two miles in 39 deg cold with shorts on.. that kinda sucked cause I'm not built for the cold..

Heck I started hanging Christmas lights on the house this afternoon in shorts and t-shirt. 2 hours in the dark and it was 39 Degrees. I am built like a bear though. Minus the hair at least. Best time to do it. Amazing weather out here as it was 60 earlier.

I'm gonna hear it for this I know it.. so this weekend I decided to sell Ethel, the 5.3/4l80 is going to be put in the blazer.. I can't bring myself to swap the motor out of this. I just can't..
we towed 7hrs empty and 7hrs loaded with @secutright 1st gen cummins and I am a believer now, it's too good a truck to let go, so Ethel has to go to make room.

I've driven a lot of diesels and I'd take a Cummins first over any others. Dmax would be second choice but it would have to be a smokin good deal. Honestly I don't think it will be a letdown.

Did you buy the Dodge? Or you're just looking for something similar?

I'll update my previous post:

Kinda late to be subscribing now...this diesel thread has gone from happiness to euphoria to boredom to discontentment to disillusionment and now to the dumpster heap (at least for the diesel aspect). All in a fairly short amount of time.

And now we're getting back to the euphoria phase again. It sure is interesting to watch.

We've now moved back to the dumpster heap again.

65 pages...and here is my first reply to this thread on page 1

So then you're doing a Cummins swap? A NA 6.2 pick-up with a 4 speed and 35's is by definition the worlds worst tow rig...and I say that as a fan of the 6.2, and even more of a fan of the SM 465 behind said 6.2. This truck on it's best day will not tow a complete K5 on a trailer worth a crap.

Cummins was your answer from day one. It's too bad you feel the need to take the sh1tty Dodge wrapper the Cummins comes in, rather than swap a Cummins into the white pick-up.

You guys are brutal!
So my Chevy love is a fling.. I got more Chevy in my blood that you do in your backyard!
My second truck was a dodge so I have a split alliance anyway!
