84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
For your truck with the 8.1, you will need workhorse brackets for the front. The normal truck brackets put the A/C compressor low on the passenger side and it hits the frame. But once you have workhorse brackets, its just get some lines made up for off the compressor, then the rest of the system from the 84 should work fine
Exactly. All the part numbers are in Larry's resources thread for the 8.1 that I read daily

Not to be that guy, but your evap would freeze long before 20 degrees.

Oem’s have sensors on the evap specifically to click the compressor off at 36 degrees to prevent freezing.

Regardless, all the ones I’ve done have been standard 38-40degrees at the center vent.

I know , too hard to believe , must be a lie.

But there has to be humidity in the air for it to freeze.
I understand your lack of trust.

I live in Arizona, it’s drier than a popcorn fart.

I was line tech for 4 years and and have been building cars for 10.

Ive never had a car go that low. It will not happen.

Take your thermostat, put it in water packed with ice and re-adjust it to 32 degrees i guarantee it’s off.

You really want a contest in someone's build thread??
I won't even tell you how long I've done what ...
But I know what AZ is like, check the humidity in my town on a summer day.
Line techs don't experiment .... in my experience. The book didn't show it to them....

When contesting wrong information yes.

And you’re right line techs are idiots, but that doesn’t somehow make you right.

Good luck with life.

Sorry sreidmx for the bs.

Dakota digital makes nice stuff, the controller deal they have you wire into is a pain in the ass and adds another component to mount.

I have switched over to using new vintage USA, let’s me pre wire a dash traditionally direct to gauges and plug it off into duestch connector.

Not sure I could move the tach into the cluster at this point. Ive had a tach on the column longer than @sreidmx has been alive

Do they have outlet temp gages for AC ports?
Yea it’s digital I think

I always forget about them, but I won’t run direct gauges anymore, canbus is too easy, that also is easy to add other canbus accessories in.

I find it so hard to mount it in a location that looks nice.

Unfortunately that might be more of type of vehicle I deal with and the lack of real estate when you have to hide everything.

They make fantastic gauge sets

On this truck it revs to easily and the rev limiter is pretty soft, plus I rarely ever get it up that high in the Rrs anyway.. may not put the tach in there.. we’ll see.

Alright so I am also considering the DD dash stuff it is in Jakes dads 71 and it’s super nice..

That might be the one for me.. thoughts?? Anyone have good luck fitting this??

I have the VHX model and they are absolutely amazing. Easy hookup and setup. Just cut the plug off the stock wire harness and put the wires where they are supposed to go. No problem with the LS tach signal being too weak, just be sure to run it in 4cyl mode. It will output a VSS to the ECM if you need it. All of the factory stuff is there, 4x4 indicator, seat belt light, check engine light. The oil pressure and temp sensors come with the metric bungs to plug into the LS. The two screens will cycle through a ton of things including all the gauges in case you want a digital readout. They can be programmed to turn of certain things so you don't have to cycle through 50 screens to find the one you want.

The only thing is, if I could do it all again I would get this model instead. I like the retro gauge faces
