'84 K5 Build (Midlife Crisis)

I could get away without the magnum with my 35’s but the plan is 40’s with the 4:56 gears I have now. Should lend to low highway rpm’s and nice crawl ratios where I don’t have to be working the clutch alot.

It looks like that Magnum Short Shaft is for short wheel base K5 builds like yours. If you notice when I had the same 465/205 combo, it was in a long bed truck.

Right now I have 700r4/208 combo and that’s 45.25
inches long. The 465/205 combo is only 37.75
The factory 465/205 adapter is about the same size as the magnum. Add in the 3.5” new adapter and I think I’ll end up around 41-42” which is still shorter than what I have now.

I had a 1978 single cab K30 long bed about 35-years ago that came with a 350/465/205 drive train in it. When I put that 205 in 4-LO, and the trans in "granny low", that was some serious gear reduction. I could not go more than 10-miles an hour in that mode. My old truck is going to build a couple of serious Blazers here in town.

@1-ton The big block is going into my crew cab after a rebuild. Your truck is organ donating to many trucks in the valley. It's cool that it's improving multiple trucks from one.

The wheels went to a friend that runs tow trucks in Lincoln County and will be on a Square Chevy wrecker around Caliente.

I see you got the bed top from the truck. Is that the bed too? I used to live in Lincoln County for several years...in Panaca. I still go up there from time to time. I am pretty sure that 454 has never been rebuilt and still has the standard bore. That engine came from a leaded gas burning Nevada Federal Emissions truck, so I am not sure if the seats on those heads are hardened for unleaded gas.

Just the top. The bed is still in my yard. No worries on the heads, I've been drooling over some modern aluminum replacements. If all goes well I'm going to use it as a tow rig for BB18.

I definitely got alot more done this weekend than I thought I would. It’s beer thirty now. Lol

Getting closer. Just have to rig up some pick points and pull the mm bolts. And round up a buddy or two to help me get the hood off.

I'm cutting some stuff today. Get a measurement of this, I'll drop off a gift before you stick the tpi motor in there
