'84 K5 Build (Midlife Crisis)

Had an interesting issue pop up last weekend. Had the K5 sitting in the driveway warming up when it just died.
It fired right back up and drove daughter to soccer practice just fine. It did it again when we were coming back home. Didn’t have time to look at it till this weekend. Hooked up the laptop to the Megasquirt to datalog it. As I was giving it some revs it died again. Went back at looked at the datalog and saw right before it died the battery voltage skyrocketed. I replaced the alternator and have two drives on it so far and no problems.

I had an F150 at work one time that would lose all electrical power including headlights when the driver would punch it to pass people. He liked to haul ass so he drove like that a lot. As soon as it would hit like 5k or so everything dropped off. Pretty sketchy passing people in the mtns at night lol. Good thing for your data log.

Happy to report, no further issues since replacing the alternator. Used the winch to unstick my forklift from the dirt side yard.
Won’t do that again.

Yeah I've learned that lesson a bunch. Solid surface forklifts and dirt don't ever mix well.

Took ‘ol Midlife Crisis for a spin the other day. Hot as all hell outside so didn’t go too far. A/C still blowing cold so that’s a good sign. Got a little warmer than I like to see on the temp gauge, so I turned the air off and let it cool down. Didn’t have my laptop hooked up so not sure how hot it really was. Runs damn good though. Loving the new trans. Softopper has seen better days. The sun is destroying everything I own.

For those that don’t know we ran poison spider last year and I made fun of eddy cause he didn’t let it rip through the desert section with some whoops.

When my truck was having fuel issues I went through the canyon and banged 1st gear off the rev limiter hit 2nd and went to hit 3rd and had to brake. I have my own rally mode and beat the group off the trail by 35mins
