84 Shortbox-2wd to 4wd- Parts Trucks!

Bearings are a pain. I think he should full floater the 9in :D. That would put a smile on my face.

May as well go 6 lug hubs on a 14Bff.....go big or go home. There is a HpD60 on one of the Facebook groups.....

Putting this here for future use.

Cycle, cycle, cycle, cycle and when you think you are done cycle some more.

Looks like fun

Cycling the suspension is for fools!!!!

Build it the way you want then just go wheel it hard.... The suspension will carve out the clearance that it needs as you drive! :haha:

I would have been finished with my front 3-link a lot sooner if I never bothered cycling it.

Time for an update.

Project is still on, but in a standstill till the weather gets warmer (high of 4* today), I'm not going to freeze my balls off if I don't have to.

Made it over to a friends house to get some measurements off of his truck (4" lift on 33's). Based on how/where his sits I have narrowed down my 3link numbers. Next challenge will be to get it to fit the truck.

Have a list going for ORD and Diy4x parts that I need to order, some for this truck some for the K5.

I had originally planned on a budget of 6-8k to get the truck running/driving how I want it. Should still come in within that range. Well....I ended up getting more than that. Way more than I expected. I was looking at 5.3's from BD Turnkey before and now that I have some more wiggle room in the budget that may happen sooner that latter.

How the truck sits now.

Chassis Unlimited is running a 17% discount on all orders and free shipping on anything over $499 for Presidents day weekend. Pulled the trigger on my 3link kit.

Went with their "E" kit. Decided to add the links to the order as well (free shipping!). Before discount it would have been $832 plus shipping. After discount w/free shipping, $690. So basically I got 12' of 2"x.250" and 4' of 1.5"x.250" for $60. Deal I couldn't pass up.

Been burning up the classifieds, here and at Pirate. Have clutch pedals, brake lines, flat top knuckles and limit straps coming.

I decided on buying ready to go flat tops. By the time I bought a steering arm/studs anx had mine machined....it would have cost about the same, if not more. I'd need to get new balljoints either way too.

Finally found a front axle. $200 got me a HP44 out of a 78 Bronco. Has 4.10 gears already. So I'll be on the look out for a SF14 with 4.10's I guess. Guy had a matching 9" but wouldn't budge on his $250 price. No way am I paying that much for a stock 9" that I'll have to modify to fit.

In other news, most all of the other parts I've bought have come in. Hydro clutch/hydroboost, extended stainless brake lines, flat top knuckles w/arm, limit straps. Still waiting on my 3 link kit from Chassis Unlimited. I ordered it 2/14/15 and it still hasn't shipped. Called them and they said they were back ordered on the heims, so once they get those in stock it'll ship.

When it starts warming up around here I'll be able to start throwing parts at the truck.

Pulled the cover off the Hp44 today....turns put the kid I got it from doesn't know math. Has 3.54 gears. Not a big deal as I was figuring on having to regear anyway. Just would have rather gotten one axle with the correct gear ratio. Maybe I'll luck out when I stumble across a Sf14.

If I get time this weekend I'll get out to the garage and start cleaning up the axle. Get my final measurements from it and plug them into the 3link calculator.

My 3link parts shipped out Tuesday and should be here sometime tomarrow.

Pulled the HP44 apart some. Down to the bare housing w/carrier in it still. Going to start grinding down the casting where the Ford "C" bushings clamp on. Enough to get a good spot to weld my link tabs to.

My Chassis Unlimited order finally showed up yesterday. Parts look good, should be easy to assemble with how they lock together. Heim joints seem nice and beefy.

Housing. I had it on a set of stands about my oil drain pan with the cover off. Somehow knocked it off the stands and into the pan....gear oil everywhere.

Box of goodies. Hydro bellhousing (which I don't need for this project, will probably use on the K5), clutch pedals, hydroboost unit, extended stainless brake lines, limit straps, Chevy stub shafts, flat top knuckles. Didn't realize that picture was so horrible.

Found a 6lug SF14, guy wants $350 for it. Not sure I want to spend that much on one or not. It has 3.73's, if it were a 4.10 axle I'd jump on it. I'm not even sure if 4.10's were available from the factory in that axle though.

As I get closer to getting all of my parts gathered, I've come to the conclusion that I won't be starting the actual build of this truck until I get my shop built. That will happen this summer/fall hopefully. Just ordered windows and siding for the house, so that project will happen first. As much as I'd like to tear into this thing, I don't need a driveway anchor right now. I can wait, plus I have other truck projects to keep me busy.

Picked up a parts truck for the rear axle. Paid $400 for it and drove it on trailer. Will pull the 350/tbi parts and the rear axle. Don't think there is much else I'll need from it. What ever doesn't sell when I list is for parts on craigslist and facebook will head to the scrap yard. May snag the rear springs too.

A while back I also bought a 99 Chevy 1500. Paid $525 for it. Runs/drives/4wd works but the body is shot. Bought it for the 5.3 and rear springs. Haven't picked it up because they lost the keys. Probably will have to unhook the transmission underneith and drag it onto the trailer.

I talked more about it in my K5 thread, but I'll mention it here too. The materials for my pole barn are supposed to be delivered today. They are supposed to get started putting It up Tuesday.

Edit: Just had to run home from work and move a car, material was too big to fit through the gate. I blame the lazy driver for not wanting to back the truck through the gate so he could use the fork truck in the back yard instead of caring the lumber sideways....whatever, it's delivered and I won't be the one who has to move it to the backyard.
