84 SWB on 42's - Sorry it's not a k5 build

ive built and ran a few square drivelines, id through a couple grease zerks in there.

I don't have it cut to length yet either.(made it extra long) I am also going to weld up the end of the 2" tube so that the grease doesn't go in there. I'm thinking about putting some zerks in, greasing it and then using plugs to fill the holes so the zerks don't get busted off. My zerks are 1/4-28 thread. I'm also second guessing myself on the orientation of the two square tubes. I have the 2.5" tube facing forward. Thought was to let stuff run out, but it can also scoop stuff up. There is no hole in the yolk where the 2.5" is welded to, but where the 2" is welded the splined hole still exists. Hope you followed all of my ramblings.

Ok, I got a few pictures this morning. I still need to put the skid plate on. If you need anymore...let me know.

From behind the bumper, looking forward. I drilled holes large enough for the hook part of the strap to slip into.

From the front, looking back. This is the stock Blazer crossmember.

I wouldn't.
It's really easy to make the drive shaft bind if you pump too much grease in it.
(And I've noticed that it doesn't take much at all :doah:)
Better to loosen it while you grease it up.
That way you can cycle it in and out to distribute the grease as well.

Yeah, and nice truck btw :waytogo:

I'll definately take that into consideration. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Do yuo have any pictures of what it took for the filler tube?

Thanks.

I'll try to get some in the next day or so. It's some 1 1/4" pipe and some hose. It comes up behind the rear tire on the passanger side.

On the topic of the square shaft and greasing it. I havent greased mine yet and I dont plan on it. I'm going to pull the shaft apart and try what I read on pirate.

Use brazing rods and put puddles on each side of the tube. Then grind it down so its just snug. Guy said that its doesnt wabble, doesnt bang when you gas and slow down like when they run out of grease. He said a couple cycles and the steel tube will scrape the bronze out perfect and it acts like one big custom made bronze sleeve. No grease necessary.

241/205 doubler build maybe?

I don't really like my front driveline angle and would like to consider a 241/205 doubler. I already have a PSD 241 attached to my 700r4. I would use it just to save on cost. I need to find a 205. This is were I start getting confused. To keep things simple, I think I need a 86 and up GM 205, round pattern. Not sure about the long or short shaft, but I think it would be best if I had the short one right? Those are probably going to be hard to find, but what did they come off of? th400? I've read numerous posts and everybody seems to be doing something different in one way or another. If you guys can help me with this I will document everything and share yet another doubler build. TIA

Megashifter for 700R4

I haven't found the right 205 yet but I will continue to look. Budgets are a bitch! On the other hand I have been making progress on modifying my B&M Megashifter. I didn't like the way it shifted. Primarily not being able to go from P to 1st in one motion. I would have to go from P to OD then ratchet it to 1st. My mock up shifter is able to go from P to 1 in one motion and also ratchet when I want. When I get the original modified, I will let you know how it works. I have never used this shifter, it is brand spankin new so I built a "second" shifter so I didn't have to modify any original parts. I really hope that it works the way I want. Wish me luck.

Megashifter shift change

As I mentioned before, I have been working on my 700R4 Megashifter to change to way it shifts. Got it all back together tonight and it shifts exactly the way that I want it to on the bench. Hopefully I'm not missing something. The earlier post tells how it shifts but I'll try to sum it up.
This is how it works and just the way I wanted it:

P to any gear and back in one motion (with "safety lever" pulled)
Still a full ratchet shifter from OD to 1st and back when I don't lift "safety lever"

So basically it's a detent shifter when I want or a ratchet shifter when I want.:woot:

Now it's an MBT Megashifter, sorta.

Nice truck...

I've been thinking about cutting one of the thin kitchen cutting boards into strips and sliding it inbetween the square tubes to take up the space... Should stop the clanking and all the buggy guys use that poly board stuff for sliders...:dunno:

Coming along, a point on square drive shafts, don't use seamless, grind the inner tube (male) to accommodate the weld seem, no clanky clanky for a couple years

Bringing this one back up :zombie3:. Any updates on this thing? Do you still have it? I want to see more pics of it!

Thanks for your interest. I haven't been here in awhile and I have done very little to the truck. I'm recently divorced and I have moved to Spokane so everything has been upside down lately. I installed a TBI 454 in the truck but I don't have it running yet. I also bought a roots style blower for it. I want to get the engine running and be sure the wiring is correct, then I will work on the blower. I have some ideas. :-) I really hope that you guys will be seeing more of me soon. I love this site, I'm always inspired after lurking here.
