'85 C30 now a K20 - Grandpa's Truck

thanks guys and dont worry about the hijack it was entertaining lol. Waiting on the numbers from the heads and block just so i know whats there before i buy the 355, im pretty set on getting it. I got dibs on the motor so i know its not going anywhere till i say i dont want it..

well i made my decision, going tomorrow night to pick the 355 up. for a 2wd street i dont think i want the rv cam so i think im gunna swap a different cam in before the motor gets dropped in. whats you 350 gurus opinion on the rv cam in my truck? 2wd, th400, 4.10s, 285 tires....

edit - i want a good street cam that has a nice idle, nothing lame but nothing to radical. i wont know what heads are on it till i get it home.

Lol thanks man. To do this you have to select the one object in the picture and make it its own layer, then fill in the back layer with black and white in my case and the selected one wont change. Kinda a pain but makes for some cool pics.

ok, got the 355 long block. Checked a few things out on it and repainted it. it needs everything but the intake, it came with an edelbrock performer. Got all the little stuff from the local parts store and my summit shipment should be here tonight. should have the 6.2 ready to be yanked out tonight. The guy i bought it from (uncles buddy) threw in a set of old skool looking Holley valve covers, my buddy tookem to work and blasted them for me and tomorrow my dad is going to paint them the same color as my truck, then sand the raised portions down, then clear over them. should look pretty cool. Also got a pair of dual 13" electric fans for free from a guy i know who works at a big local junk yard, not sure how theyll fit but im gunna try to use them, he thinks they were out of a vette. heres a few shots of the motor (new dizzy on its way). Fresh 355, balanced, forged pistons, hv oil pump, edelbrock intake, only run on stand = $800

Id stay with the RV cam for now and see how it works. its a heavy truck, not a Chevelle or a Camaro. I would also see about a Qjet instead of a the edelbrock, just me though

I have to tell myself that quite a bit too.

Thumbs up on the Wix filter too. I see WAY too many fram filters in engine pics.

its got an edelbrock intake, im borrowing my uncles holley 600 carb for now but he has a q jet that he said i could have. i might get it from him and send it out to JET for their stage 2. any one know what JET charges for a stage 2?

I just got one a few months back , it was under 400 shipped to AK . worth every penny, its as close to fuel injection as you can get with a carb

Jet stage 3 carb
I talked with Jet about a custom carb today for my application.
I tried SMI, but didn't get any response from them.

Jet suggested a quadrajet 36003...stage 3/ 800 cfm:

JET Performance now offers a Quadrajet carburetor tuned for Chevy & GMC cars and trucks with 396 ci and larger modified big block engines. The carburetor is extensively reworked by increasing main well size and is balanced to assure top end high RPM fuel flow. Several circuit modifications are made to keep the fuel curve correct throughout the entire RPM range and to keep consistent idle quality. Includes a .149 needle and seat to ensure adequate fuel flow. The carburetor is designed for modified big block motors with a dual plane intake manifold, headers, 8.5-9.5:1 compression ratio and mild ported or aftermarket heads. Recommended cam specs: Duration @ .050 min 210 degrees, max 240 degrees and a lobe separation angle of 110-114 degrees.
Available as a complete unit or JET can rebuild your existing core.
800 CFM Quadrajet custom built for big block engines 396 ci and up.

They also agreed to take 2 old cores I have in trade and give me $45 for them. Cool, just 350 carbs, and not in run-able condition either.

So I'm sending the truck avenger 770 back. Price will be about the same for this JET carb.

I thiink mine was right about $400 with shipping.

6.2 is half way yanked, new motor is pretty much ready to go in. got my fans mounted today, 2 - 13 inchers supposedly from a vette. between them and the 6.2 rad im not worried about getting hot.
