85 Suburban. Back in the shop

Ok, all welded up tonight. Even finished my little box plate section. In the long term plan they will serve as a rear mounting point for the rear of the cage.
After the picture everything got wire wheeled, cleaned and a coat of self etching primer

freakin sweet man! Looks good.

Hell yeAH, and the best part

2wd hangers...free
Steel......free
63 inch springs,.....free

My biggest expense will be the DIY4X shackles. Because they are Bdass

Some time, electricity, welding wire, gas, and paint and its all done. I'm exited.

Of course all the money I saved here will go into shocks and drive shafts.

I'm glad you welded some metal in there I don't think that cardboard would have held up ;-)

I agree, steel is quite a bit more stongerer than cardboard. It also does not fall apart when it gets wet, it just rusts and slowly falls apart. I think it was a good choice in the end

Just picked up some tri Y Doug Thorley 454 headers tonight. Gonna be adding those really soon and new exhaust system. I'm pumped, I love these headers.

Get to a stopping point on that thing so you can help put mine together.... I know... They're never "done".

Well the plan today was to drive it but I'm a bonehead most of the time.

1. I cracked the oil filter adaptor housing when putting my AN fittings on it. Completely my fault, I have have to dig out one a have.....but I don't know where it is. I feel like an idiot but its so close to the oil pan and I couldn't tell it broke. Just enough to have a small drip.

2. I knew it, but forgot til today. Soooooooo, the rear driveshaft is too short now. After the 63s moved the rear end back....

3. The battery was dead. I guess I left the key on or dome light was on because I had the rear tailgate open

4. Once I started it the feaking air pump was locked up. WTF, it was working fine when I parked it. Stopped it beforethe belt fried, be soon enough to notice the oil leak.

5. The new fuel pump and mounts turned out good but took forever to prime. I relocated the FP away from the tire like the PO had installed it another WTF was he thinking deal.

All this is mid 30s weather......I'm losing my Damn mind.

But on a positive note, the fuel tank is in, the skid plate is on, the new rear.brake line is on and the load sensing valve was removed.

So some progress

The Big One Lives.

Drive her home tonight for the 1st time in over a month. It's been hell trying to find time this winter. The little stuff is always so agonizing.
Anyways, the 63s turned out great I really like them. The the front end seems less flexy between the frame with the welded crossmembers and new engine mounts.

I had to build a driveshaft tonight, 2nd one since I had it. Also had fix oil cooler housing. Luckily I had one is stock.
But pretty pleased with how it rode. I can tell she will.be flexing good.

Next up:
is flexing with a forklift to get shock measurements, bumpstop points and front driveshaft length

And put on the headers and new exhaust system.

Thats awesome man! Good job! Hoping to drive mine for the first time sense the 5.3 swap this weekend!
