85 Suburban. Back in the shop

I use to dislike all body lifts. After I bought my California K5 and worked on it with the 1" body lift on it though, I was sold. I have since installed one on my Suburban, and would recommend them to anyone. The extra inch of tire clearance is nice, but the little extra clearance underneath when working on them is great. I still dislike 2" and 3" bodylifts.

I have a 2" and that's all I know, but I do like it and it's easy to work on stuff under there.

Yeah that's what I was thinking shock wise

I need about 25 inches extended in the front and 26 in the back
Front about 14 and rear 12.
 
About the body lifts, yeah big plastic pucks suck. 1 inch would be nice.

Id like to have the extra clearance before I start sliders and bumpers.
 
I have an 1 inch lift from ORD in my shop. the only way I would ever do one is if the rubber mounts needed replacing I would put it in.

Get the same size shocks in the front as you do in the back. The extra 2 inches is not going to matter in the back. Might be cheaper that way.

The flex does look good.

So, I'm putting on new body bushings and 1 inch lift pucks.

Anyone else want to comment how much it sucks. Rusted bolts, stripped captured nuts in the body.Ahhh, I thought this would be easy
 
Yeah, it can be a pain in the ass, but they are much easier to work on after it is installed.

yup, the first thing you hit is the caged nut bolts to see if they're gonna come out.. when they spin ya know the job time just multiplied by 5... :doah:
 
Well, all the old ones are out.

Had to cut a hole in floor for one nut inside the body.

These are the old ones. The bolts were about to snap. Also wanted to get this done before the new trans and doubler goes in

I had to cut a hole in the passenger side floor on my truck too. Dumb thing was just spinning in there.
 
That's funny The same one is spinning on my truck. What do you recommend for a attack?
 
I took measurements from the outside and got within an inch, drilled a small hole and used a flashlight to make sure I was in the right area then just used a cut off wheel to cut out a square big enough to get in there and fix it.
 
I was thinking about using a hole saw and a rubber plug. I don't know how to weld so I figured this would be just as good.
 
For something like this you could just use some JB Weld. Assuming you still have carpet (I don't) I wouldn't hesitate, it'll seal up fine and you won't ever see it.
 
I hear yuh...really suprised to see how thin my bolts were when I removed for ORD 1" Alum. Pucks & new Poly Body Mounts upgrade...a couple more years and...snap. Better to catch early than experience failure :-)
 
I soaked mine for a week. Shooting it with pb blaster every evening after work. Went through a whole can.lol But i was able to get them out withough cutting the floor.
 
soaking with PB doesn't do anything for the captured nut ones.. they either hold up and come loose, or they spin.. your not getting any penetrating oil on those nuts...
