'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
I got the correct curved oil filler neck, and the Derale cooler setup for the transmission. Other than that, just a whole bunch of nothing. Working on the boat this summer, doing dirt work for the shop, and no wiring harness has left me with zero drive to work on it right now.

It will get done. As soon as this shop starts going up, we'll have some money start to free up along with time.

I thought dude was giving you the harness after you called him out?

Yeah, that lasted a whole week. He said he'll swing by sunday and drop it off. I believe zero of it. He says he's really busy with his side hustle of lazer cutting fire pits for people. He sent me a picture of about 20 pits that he is delivering today. If we had the money, I would buy a different harness and be done.

Fawker! That sucks. I straight up tell people that want me to do stuff that it's gonna take me a long time if it's during kids sports season or farming time. Or I just stay up really late and make it happen. I just took on fixing my boss's excursion but he's in no rush and I finally have some time.

Well you guys were the gentle nudge I needed. Just pulled the trigger on the Howell harness, with the wife's approval obviously lol.

So i'm not going to tell the guy, so that I still get the harness at some point. I'll use it down the road on a different 8.1 project that's in my head.

Hopefully I get it next week and I can see if the old big block will fire up!

Yay for wife approval on truck stuffs! Mine tells me to buy shit all the time but I'm the money guy so I know we don't have it and can't spend it so it don't happen.
She got a hazard pay bonus, and is currently on a shopping spree with a friend in KC. So she said eff-it, just buy it and get that thing running! lol

Not to be the asshole here, but that's spoken like someone that's never had a shop. They are money pits in themselves. You can spend so much money on shop things, it makes a guys head hurt.
But good luck with that.

Well you are, but that's why I like you. If you ever spoke anything but the truth, i'd be more concerned lol.

But then I quickly realized how that statement didn't make sense, so I made the one below. Either I get this thing going, or I am going to screw myself and not finish it for another year.

Called it on this one. Shot him a text yesterday to see what time he wanted to meet up, and got another BS excuse. Glad i'm not waiting on him anymore.

Probably should just get it back and figure it out on your own. Can't be too hard just time consuming. As long as he hasn't pulled it apart or something.

That's what I asked him last week, and he said "uhhhh, it's kind of a mess right now."

I told him I wasn't scared, and he said "I'll text you Sunday."

Man I can't catch a break with this damn wiring harness for this truck.

Been a week since I placed my order. Decided to call Howell and see about an update. The tech proceeds to tell me they have been trying to call me for a week as he has questions about my harness. I asked what number they have been calling, and he just starts asking questions about the setup I am running.

I told him all about my plan and he said that should be a simple harness as it doesn't have crazy options on it. He then tells me 2-3 more weeks out before it ships.

I'm a little upset about them waiting a week to call me about build details, but more just frustrated with the fact that I can't get a wiring harness for my truck.

Have you considered making your own? Go grab the half-finished harness and finish it yourself!

As stated earlier, it is being held ransom for some reason. I have asked for the "mess" and he said it's torn apart too much. It would take me longer than 3 weeks to rebuild a harness as I have never tried to redo one. I'm more just frustrated about my luck with this situation.

It took 2-3 weeks from order to delivery of mine. It's not an off the shelf item.

No flipping way would I consider reworking an oem harness. I don't have the time or the patience to go through that and I have access to all the gm schematics I would need to do it. Not to mention any original harness is used, 15 years old and completely probable to have connectors break when messing with them. Then there's having all the weather pack specific special tools needed to release terminals and recrimp.

Getting a new harness saves all that grief. When installed correctly there's no guesswork. Howell uses the same wire colors on the circuits to match the factory schematic. If anything proved it for me is the fact that my truck started up on the first hit of the key. No trouble codes. Everything works like it should.

It's worth the wait.

I know. I guess I'm just disappointed in the fact a week went by without any updates or actual phone calls. I even sent and email on Wed. to get an update, and never received a response.

I feel your pain man, I'm going through a similar deal with a different harness builder. I ordered / paid for a very simplified dash harness from a guy and he immediately went stone quiet and wasn't answering messages. He promised 2 week shipping, at 4 weeks and a nasty-gram he finally answered and shipped it. Once I got it nothing going through the headlight switch worked so I had to ship it back to him Wednesday, he's promised one day to fix and turn it around back to me so I'm hoping I'll have it by the end of next week. We'll see....
