'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
Use a scuff pad and some comet. You just need friction. I used a wire wheel on mine. Worked good but also left some gouges in the alumninum. But I didn’t feel like pulling it off just to clean it so it was just what I could accomplish in the engine bay.
Sounds like a good plan. I'll try to soak it as well after the cleaning. I have a big tub I could put it in.
 
Oven cleaner or purple power. I've seen people soak stuff in purple power that was pretty concentrated for too long and it actually ate away the metal. Spray it down and let it soak for a little bit and just hose it off.
 
Got side tracked with my leaking bead locks today since I can use my good air impact now.

Pulled them off the truck, broke the bead loose, and checked the orings. Put it all back together and got a good even pinch. They still leak. So after a breef text convo with Beard Ericsson, we determined that I need new orings. So I wait for them.

Put the 36” rollers back on the so I can get it off the jack stands.

It looks funny. But not as bad as I thought it would.

My best tip is to clean the wheels real well on both sides for the oring. Then superglue the oring in 8 or so spots around it so it holds in place well. Then squish it down with bolts and done. I have had 4 sets of tires on my h1s and I have learned to not reuse orings and to spot glue new ones in place. I had some leak so bad id have to air them up on the trailer mid tow to keep my chains tight.

Yeah, glue or some thick grease to keep the O-rings in place while you bolt the outer half on. The stupid O-rings are the worst part of H1's for sure. Are you using cut down mag-inserts, or PVC's? If PVC's, are you sure they are the correct size for the tire you are using? When I went from 38.5's to the 44's boggers (and on a side note, this would have been the same for my now 42" PBR's too) I wasn't thinking and tried to mount a 44 using the same PVC's I was using for the 38.5's and there was no way it was going on. Found out that I had to cut down my PVC's as obviously the bead was much larger/thicker on the 44's then the 38.5's. Once I cut them down to correct size, they all went on as they should. Just something to think about is all.

But it'll hold air for probably 2 or 3 weeks just sitting in my shop, and at that point I notice it's just starting to sag a bit, so I throw some more air in it. Not nearly enough leakage for me to warrant breaking the rim down to re-seal it again. I know it's probably my O-ring got folded over a tiny bit or something.
 
At one time I had some H1's, 2 of them would not seal (with new o-rings) on 42's with mag inserts. I fixed them by running a bead of the clear, stay soft window caulk in the o-ring groove of the outer shell before final assembly.

These are new PVC inserts from TW. Ordered them for the 39.5 TSL's specifically. I'm going to try a couple beads of rtv throughout the new orings to see what that does.

I may add some silicone like you said. Not a bad idea.
 
Silicone has never worked for me. I even let em set for 24 hours before inflation. Clean and lubed with glass cleaner after it's glued down has been what worked best for me. Individual results may differ.
