'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
Update

Well, life has been crazy lately. Been working on the truck off and on with this EFI system. I ended up getting every thing buttoned up on it, but I was not gettting any power out of the ECM. I checked all 3 powers and all 3 grounds at the plug, and I had all working. Which lead to the contact of Professional Products. I have been talking to a rep there and we have came up with the thought that the ECM that was sold with the EFI system is bad. They are going to send me a new one (for free:woot:) to test it out and see if that is the issue. If so, only $50 for the ECM, plus shipping. Also the gentleman that sold it to me said he is more than willing to pay for the new ECM:thumb:.

I should be receiving the new ECM by the weekend, so hopefully I will be reporting back with good new

Still nothing

So I talked a little more with PP(professional products), and they said there is an issue with my computer program/CD that it came with. My CD is from the 00-07 year range, and they have since updated in 2010. The 2010 version needs to be downloaded onto the ECM before I can even get it to wake up.

I tried downloading the new version of the Retrotek Dashboard to my laptop last night, but I am borderline retarded and couldn't figure my laptop out. It's got the windows live desktop on it, and I am still not familiar with it. It took me 20 min just to find out where the control panel was:doah:

Going to give it another go tonight, after a couple liqiud motivation units.

On a side note

Got a 24" led light bar for Christmas. Got it mounted and wired up tonight. Gotta get a new grille since I seem to break mine all the time. Pretty happy with it overall. Next it's back to the EFI, then onto hydro-assist and a cage.

Crossing my fingers

Just got off the phone with PP(professional products). They found some old stock on the computer I need for my system. They said they couldn't sell me the computer, but they could however give it to me. So for $20 they are shipping me a brand new computer(ECM) and the new updated software:woot:

I should have it some time next week, and be on to a long-overdue update about how awesome this pig is running:doah:

Forward movement(unfortunately not the truck)

Got the new computer tonight. Plugged it in and got some lights from the ECM and got the fuel pump to prime:woot:

I am still having trouble getting the laptop to "connect" to whatever to get a base tune downloaded on the ECM. Ran the battery dead trying different things, but at least got a positive reaction out of the new ECM. Hopefully I can fart with it more tomorrow night.

Got a local speed shop that I sell parts at work. Said he would like to help me tune my EFI system for me. So I am going to load the jimmy up next week and take it to their shop on Saturday and hopefully get a good base tune on it :waytogo:

On another note,

Getting a few other things in line for the hydro assist. The old tierod that was on the truck was from a CUCV, and was just a hair too wide for the dodge axle. It worked good enough on the trial to get me by for a while, but was not going to last long. I got a new beefy tierod that a buddy (switched to full hydro) wasn't using. Ordered some heims from Steinjager, and drilled out my knuckles to 3/4 inch non-tapered holes. Mounted everything up last night, and it fit perfectly. Since I will be driving the truck on the road while tuning it, I went ahead and left it on. It will be getting different tabs welded on for the hydro ram and will be getting painted orange. This is just temporary till we get it running good.

Baby steps...

Just another boring post

Kinda...

I got the Jimmy started on Saturday:woot:

Not running very well though. Me being not too smart, I have the fuel pump mounted higher than the tank. And since the fuel pump is a push type, it is working too hard. The truck runs great for a few minutes, then starts to cut out and run like it's carb'd:haha:

The pump is working too hard to try and push fuel that isn't there, plus then they absent fuel isn't cooling the pump either.

So, my solution is:

-Fuel cell in the bed
-Remount the pump in the rear under the tank on the frame still
-And get the pump running more efficiantly and cooler (temp)

I got a 20 gal aluminum polished tank coming from Speed Master:dunno:(never heard of them). It comes with a sender for the gauge.

Also got some AN fittings headed this way for running some fuel line. I should have everything by the end of the week and will post more pictures.

All in all, I was able to drive the truck home from the shop!!! And I am super pumped that I've made that progress.

FINALLY!!!......A post worth something.

Got a lot done on the truck last night. Relocated the fuel pump and got the cell mounted in the "bed". Drove the truck for about 30-45 min last night got it running very, very well.

Ran a temp. vent hose so I didn't have a ton of fumes in the truck while driving and tuning last night, so ignore that. Going to be running a nice 90* bend and some braided line out a seperate hole.

I'll get some better pictures and more details on the install later today. Something with a little more light on the situation.:D

glad to hear you got it running right.

How was the quality on the fuel tank?

Honestly it was extremly good quality. I will get some close up pics of it this afternoon. It was actually Speedmaster, which is made by RCI...IIRC.

Came with a sender for the fuel gauge, very light weight, and extremly durable.

My buddy helping me work on it was very mad that he didn't find that one when he was builting his setup.

It was one of the only 20 gal cells I could find that was also sump, and had the sender. And for $199 shipped, I couldn't pass on it.

Oh yeah it was a great deal! The 16 gal plastic tanks, sumped, without a sender were going for $120-$150 shipped. It was a no brainer........plus I like shinny things:haha:

Moar pictures!

Dang iPhone won't let me load more than one picture.
