This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
Worked yesterday from about 8:30am to 1:00 in the morning, with a few hour break around 4 for dinner and some family time. Got the cab cage done minus some door bars, and got the basics done for the rear.
Still need to connect everything to the frame, but 75% of it is all wrapped up.
Going to be adding a lot of additional bracing here and there, and a lot more tubing on the rear section.
Used about 5 20ft sticks of .120 wall DOM. Still have 1 stick left and some decent length pieces for some bracing.
Overall, I am very happy with the outcome, and owe a big thanks to 83Superburb (not active at the time) for all of his very nice weld porn
If I wasn't picking up my new project car that weekend I'd be in. Getting a new/old early Datsun 260z. Don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. Need to finish the SAAB first but I always wanted a 240Z and the early 260 is a 240 body/chassis. Late 260 is a 280Z and they grew a foot and a half.
Went down to BMR last weekend and had way too much fun!
Got down there friday shortly after lunch and got right to trails.
Didn't end up having any issues other that one small hiccup, the spark control wire came off the dist. directly after a hill climb. After a few minutes of messing with the fuel pumpI decided to think outside the box and checked the wire. Truck fired right up and got back to some trails.
Didn't get very many pictures, as we were way too busy having fun on the trails. But my buddy did get at least one shot off my back side....
Ended up getting a few more body lines moved due to following some cherokees through some tight trails, but showed them how to wheel a fullsize
Started removing unessicary interior panels and cleaning up the inside of the jimmy. Getting it ready for some sanding and prepping for a fresh coat of bed liner. Going to try and roll it on. Since its the inside, I'm not crazy worried on how it's going to turn out. Just want an updated look. After that gets laid down, I am going to get the cage finished and get it painted.
