'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
We can help with the homeless, but the heart issues you gotta take care of. I don't think we'd be much help there lol.

So I'm still running into issues with my fuel pump over heating.

My solution is making a return style system. Picked up a return style fuel filter from an 01ish corvette. Also picked up a ton of AN fittings to redo all my fuel connections. Hopefully this will keep cool fuel running through the pump at all times preventing the pump from getting too hot.

Forgive my ignorance...didn't your EFI setup come with a return loop? :dunno:

Nope. It is setup to be ran either way. It says return less for lower horsepower applications, but I'm clearly having an overheated fuel issue.

Interesting that it's a fuel filter and regulator all in one. So your thought process is that the pump is being overworked with the lack of return correct?

Sort of...

My belief is, the pump is not cooling itself while under light loads.

Example:
While on the trail, idling along to the next obstacle or sitting and observing, the fuel pump will start to wine quite loud. It will then start to boil the fuel creating a run issue and the truck dies. If I keep a load on it, I can usually keep the pump fairly calm and it won't run bad.

The efi system is set up to run returned or returnless. The ecm is suppose to regulate the fuel pressure via the pump, but I am thinking that is causing the overheating issue. While regulated by the pump, it just doesn't send enough fuel through to cool it down. During the winter, or cold nights I hardly ever have any pump issues. But on a 70* day or warmer, it does not like sitting and idling for more than a few minutes.

odd the ecm regulates the pump like that, never heard of any system doing that. Your theory makes sense....

Thanks. I have been doing a lot of reading. Coming from a carb'd family, I am kinda on my own for this efi learing stuff...

I hope this is an answer to some of my run issues. I've only thought about a 5.3 swap say.......1200 times.....

Hate to tell ya, but a 5.3 swap will also involve electronic fuel injection. :deal:

I like in tank pumps, they run cooler and are quieter.
Looking back now, I would have gotten a cell that would have allowed for that :doah:

True, but I sell to shops that would be able to help much more then they can with this Chinese EFI :haha:

I do believe once I get all these bugs worked out, and fill in the corners I cut, this should be a pretty decent system. I mean, it's based off of GM TBI. Same sensors used, so it should be fine once I get it all lined out.
