'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.

Says the guy who can only count one tree in Kansas, it looks like an entire row of trees under that REA line......

Martin

Oh, Martin. I never said that Kansas only has one tree, I called it "the land of the lonely tree." As in, lonely trees are definitely a thing here. I believe these to be the pictures that originally got me in trouble...

Yes, there are trees in the background, but they're pretty sparse comparatively. And by comparatively, I mean compared to my region.

P.S. - Greg's planted hedge line does not count, those trees also look lonely given their surroundings. ;)

Our shop mechanic told me a couple of stories about vehicle fires he's had to fix in the past couple years due to cheap parts store fuses not blowing when they should. So I bought a pack of each size of the good Bussmann fuses.

and those parts store fuses aren't any cheaper than buying quality fuses online. I hate all those little 2 or three pack fuses....give me a dozen of each dammit.

Yep, I got a nice big variety pack of the Bussmann's. Bought them years ago. Hardly ever have to replace fuses.

Same here. Except instead of buying them, I simply pulled the fuses out of various vehicles that were scrap-bound. OEM quality, for the most part.

I got the fans finished up last night. Everything works great. It's a good feeling to know you did it right, and will most likely not have to mess with it again. I did not get any pictures though. It's just too dark by the time I get out there to mess with it. I may get some pictures on my lunch break.

Thanks again for the help fellas. I am now not so skeered of electricity. Haha

So the next hurdle to tackle is my running issue. The truck runs ok, but after a while of driving it seems to load up on fuel and sometimes causes the truck to die. It then may take hours or days for it to restart again. Usually I can kind of throttle through it and keep going. But if it dies I might be SOL for a bit.

Is this something that could be cause by vapor locking?

Didn't you already solve this with your new return loop? Or is that still a conceptual idea?

Return loop fixed the pump overheating and causing run issues. 50% of my issues went away with that change. I am still trying to get the other 50% fixed.

Ok, what else can you tell us about these failures? Operating conditions? Any observations? You said it's fine if you open up the throttle, right? How close to the carb is the return loop? When you say it may take days to restart, does that mean that it's un-startable during the whole time period or just that you haven't been trying to restart it in the hours afterwards? If it's a vapor lock issue, it will go away when the engine cools off. And that does not take days.

When it dies, does it smell flooded? (Well, that is assuming that you have been sniffing the exhaust pipe right afterwards, I guess I can't really blame you if you don't have this superpower of a reflex. :haha:)
