'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
Crank sensor was wrong. Still need to jack up the tail shaft of the trans and try to access the sensor from up top.

You shouldn’t need to do that. I was able to remove the crank sensor on my crew cab by just laying on top of the motor and pulling it up and out. The hardest part is getting the dumb little bolt of that holds the sensor down. But after that you should be able to pull it up and out. It’s real close to the firewall for sure, but it was able to do it no problem

I tried for almost 30min, but that damn thing would not make it out in one piece.

I haven’t touched this truck in 9 months. To say I am burnt out on it is an understatement. I have zero intentions of selling it, I just don’t know how to get motivated on it again.

Been dreaming and rereading my build threads the last couple of weeks for some reason. Looking for motivation I suppose.

What do you guys do when you’ve lost all motivation in a project?

Does it drive? If it does go take it out. If not, make it at least driveable and go drive it.

I’m sure it’s obvious that I’m the worst procrastinator on the site, I do it because some projects get overwhelming and sometimes there’s just no reason to work on it. There’s nowhere to ride in my immediate area so “what’s the rush, I’ll do it next weekend“.

The best thing that’s helped to motivate me has been organized rides with other members. These give both a reason and the desire to get it done. Do you have other members close to maybe schedule a ride after the first of the year, etc ?

Walk away and not look at it until something sparks my interest again. A comment from the kids, weather change, talking about it to a stranger.
I talk about it all the time. I day dream to my wife all the time about getting it done and taking it for an ice cream cruise. Or even talk about it to other square body owners.

It’s a long ways away from driveable. Need to finish wiring and the fuel system. Then swap in the new trans.

I used to go out on the trails all the time, but most of the people I went with all have buggies and wheel harder than I really care too. Sure I could tag along for a bit, but my rig isn’t really on the same level anymore. Plus they like to get stupid drunk on the trails, and I’m past that point in my life.

A few guys made plans to go wheelin a couples weeks before Halloween, and all I did then was make excuses like I am now lol.

I think it helps to make a bigger list of small tasks and then pick one or two things a week. Then you can see progress without making the project dominate in your life. It's easy to go in the shop and wander around thinking about what to work on just to realize each thing has something else needed first and essentially lose the time you had that day. "Install trans" might be an hour job - but you have 30 other things required before you can "simply" drop it in place.

Sometimes for me just cleaning up the shop is a motivator. If I'm comfortable with heat, good lighting, tunes, etc. it feels more like fun and less like masochism.

Not being able to drive something is enough motivation for me.
I also keep a running list of items that need attention or need to be fixed. Otherwise I forget, too many damn cars/trucks to maintain.

I have found a deadline is my best motivator. My suburban sat up nearly a year with a half completed engine swap.

We talked about moving, house got sold and I knew if i left it behind it would be the end of it. We thrashed for a couple weeks and then drove it from Mississippi to Wyoming after a 50 mile "shake down" drive to work.

Plan a trip, prioritize the needs vs. wants and it may help it to come together. Then work on wants after you run it once to get the spark back.

Go drive the Cheeto if you still have it and maybe that will get you going. Every time I drive my farm truck I love it. Blazer needs new tires due to age and dry rotting finally but I still drive it once in a while and then I wish I could drive it every day.

Once my truck is wheelable, I'd like to make a trip to Tuttle. I've never been and would prefer to go with someone who has been before.

And, FWIW, I don't like drinking on the trail, either, and my truck will be modestly built on leaf springs and 37s.
