My crew cab 2wd would love a 5 speed. The big block is screaming at like 60 mph.
hmmmm you need a big block next!

My NV4500 is all back together and ready to install.
I still need to get my hands on the correct fluid and get an input seal for my NP205 before I can tear into it. If I can find that stuff locally tomorrow, I'll be swapping this trans in this weekend. If not it will have to wait a couple weeks. If I can't find any fluid locally, I'm going with Redline MT-85 if I have to order it in. This stuff is still $15/quart. I'm also going to run it in my NP205 to prevent cross contamination if that input seal starts to leak.
Boring picture of freshly rebuilt transmission. This thing is heavy.

The input shaft, bearing retainer, all the bearings, and synchros had to be replaced. The gears all looked good so I'm reusing them. This trans has the vibration damper in it too.
I'm going to have to fab my own shifter. I'll make that out of some 3/4" round bar. I also bought a NOS Shift knob with the correct shift pattern on it. I found the PN for that on Larry's epic thread over on the 67-72 board.
Nice! Looks like your trans swap went smoother than mine.
Thanks!Man I wish I could remember the NAPA part number for that fluid. I got my last batch from them and it was redline, my local store had it in stock. Nice job so far, I will be following your lead shortly, just with a ford NP205...LOL
Yup. I've ordered more than one thing from Jegs and wondered how it made it to my house intact. Summit on the other hand would have shipped it in a concrete box with fiber reinforcement wrapped in bubble wrap. Seriously I ordered a bunch of ARP studs and they came in a box about 14'x14' with the entire box full of packing material. I had a good laugh as shipping was free but I had to wonder who was having a good laugh at my expense. Thanks!
I went with Redline MT85, ordered it from Jegs, took two weeks to get it. The FEDEX first shipment got damaged at the hub in Salt Lake City and returned to sender. I can just imagine the mess that 2 gallons of synthetic gear oil spread all over a trailer full of packages looks like. I was very surprised how poorly packaged it was when it showed up at my house. Gallon jugs with a piece of tape across the lid and a very thin bubble wrap layer. Shipped in a shallow box laid flat on their sides and all kinds of room to rattle around.
I was also doing a big change to the transfercase too; that didn't help. Plus I can't leave well enough alone....
I've been using Amsoil synthetic gear oil. They have a "preferred customer" program now that gets you discounted pricing on their stuff. It's $20/yr for the program but you can easily save more than that if you look at regular retail price. I really got into it because they have the Z-rod engine oil with the extra zinc additive for us old school flat tappet cam people.
Looks pretty nice! Let's see it mocked up.Finally got my bumper parts today!
