86 K30 - Sarge - strong box doubler and triple stick shifter

is the 6k fully loaded with your spare? Dan's (myhichevy4x4) k30 diesel truggy is weighing in at 6k but the tool box is empty an the spare has yet to be mounted.

6k is with an empty bed, 3/4 tank of fuel and that's it. I'm sure "trail weight" is more in the 6500+ range.

After some research and praise from those who have used them, I'm going with a TBI system from Affordable Fuel Injection :woot: I will try to do a full write up on the swap so anyone else "on the fence" can have a good idea what their in for.

Please do this. I am on the fence right now too. I want fuel injection bad too, but I am finding that time to work on my rig is less and less (with myself working during the day, my wife working nights, and having two kids under 2 yrs old, garage time is sparce). So to have a system that is a little more plug & play by paying a few hundred more dollars makes me interested. But there are still questions I have with this set up that I don't have answered yet....so can you be my ginny pig :deal: :D. J/K.

So when am I dropping off the big dodge? I need some toob bent up..... :)

Rick
I wish I had an answer, I really have no clue where summer went this year :doah: hopefully I will get a break some time soon.

I completly understand, my situation is very similar. I hope the system turns out as great as I have been led to believe thus far......because so far the customer service with them has not been what I had expected. Its been 4 weeks, I had never recieved anything from them except the initial confirmation of my order and that they had taken my money. I called at 3 weeks and got their answering service twice so I left a message, called again yesterday, left another message, finally got an email today saying they "think" my system is in final inspection and sorry about the delays and lack of communication but people have been on vacation and they are expanding into a new building etc. and oh by the way our supplier is out of fuel pumps is it ok to ship your kit with out it and we can send it later.......
Sooo, the rig will not be FI for our trip on the 6th and so far I'm not really too happy with AFI, I'm hoping that changes once install the stuff but we will see.

Josh, did your AFI kit come in?

That blows Josh. I know you were looking forward to having it ready for this trip. If you want, you and Jake can ride in the K5 just so you know what it feels like :haha:

But seriously, if you need a fuel pump, I know a guy who works at a parts store who can get one pretty cheap

Sure, let's go up that middle hill climb we hit on Saturday last time :D

If it comes down to it I will go pull a whole tank from an injected K5 and swap it in with the in-tank pump. At this point I'm really about out of time to try and do the swap anyway......
I'd rather stall on a big hill at RC with a carb then have a rig in the driveway with a half installed FI kit :waytogo:

I may try to mess with the carb some this weekend and see if I can get it at least a little better :dunno:

And you have to put together a t-case.

And you have to put together a t-case.

That's 1/2 done, tore them both apart before work the other day at 4:30am :haha:

They are actually stupid simple inside, I'm just going to swap the inputs as my original sye build case is soo much cleaner and all the bushings on the shift forks are mint.

Josh,
do you need that blazer TBI tank I have? I can bring it to Rausch?

Nick, I will let you know......my afi box showed up today:doah: .....I contemplated an efi install thrash .....but I ended up having a job pop up for tomorrow in DC .....so leaving the house at 4:30am tomorrow and then Jacob has football practice as soon as I get home so no efi for me. I haven't even opened the box yet :dunno:

I did get the "modded" tube doors on and even spiffed up the interior with a different dash pad, some new old dash speakers and some fresh OD green paint .....what a difference:pimp:. I'm in the middle of a little more fende/ core support trimming that I will finish sometime before we leave......:D

I didnt get a chance to call you over the weekend so i figure I'll just post this here as Im sure others would be interested too How does the truck run with the AFI injection setup installed???????:dunno:

:D

Thanks Nick:waytogo:

I have one crappy pic he sent me but hopefully Josh took a bunch during the process.

:doah: :doah:

Ok, sorry I didn't reply sooner, I somehow turned off the "instant notification" setting on all of my sub'd threads :dunno:

Anyway, love the fuel injection :woot: Sarge is a whole new animal now, enough so, that I'm already collecting stuff to do an anti-wrap bar :D

I had full intentions of taking lots of pics and doing a full write up on the AFI kit, but, I had a few issues arise and it ended up becoming a rush install sooo.:doah:

I will say I can't be happier with the end result and the quality of their kit, I did however have a few issues with them. I was sent the incorrect distributor, and the fuel pump came with no fittings, instructions or wiring harness. After a few emails they did step up, correct the problems and were very sorry for the mix up and the amount of time for my order to arrive. They are in the process of expanding/moving and I can understand how that would affect orders and shipping.

The kit itself is top notch, the harness could not be simpler, everything is clearly labeled and logically layed out, once everything was installed and primed it fired up immediately and even before the timing was set ran smoother then it ever has. I can honestly say I will never own a carb'd rig again. I will get some good installed pics later as I'm going to do some cleanup under the hood, and since I will need to re-locate my exhaust for an anti wrap bar......guess I may as well put some headers on at the same time :D

Well, here's what you get in the kit

Throttle body, if you didn't know it was rebuilt, you would swear it was new

and a half way installed pic of my extremely dirty 454 with a way to shiny and clean TBI system

I will add some better installed pics, and sensor locations etc when I clean up the un-needed wiring and install headers.

Oh, and a pic of Sarge at "trunk or treat" at Jacob's school last Saturday:D

Jacob as a ninja and cowgirl Caroline ..........and yes........it was the coolest vehicle there !
