87' GMC Custom Crew Cab Short Bed CUMMINS!

Nice job on the frame boxing and steering box mount. I'm doing the same thing only I started mine about 10 years ago when I got my crew cab. Damn these projects take forever lol!

So these photos were taken about a week or so ago which as you can see is my first trial fit of the 07' Cummins in my crew cab. Needless to say I discovered a number of alterations had to take place before this drive train would be able to call the 87' a new home.. The a/c compressor would not fit and the firewall did not have enough height for the valve cover. I first considered a 2" body lift but the idea nearly killed me. I hate body lifts. So the drawing board was pulled out and I went to work... To see the cummins in my crew cab was very exciting to see all the same!

So I decided today to build new shackles and I continued boxing in the frame rails in prep for the engine brackets which should be fabricated tomorrow...

You do realize that there is a kenworth part that flips the ac compressor to a high mount over the alternator. And drops the alt down some. It's all bolt on Cummins parts for a B series in the little T-300 kenworth. Perfect for a Chevy swap. No frame mods required.

My new fabricated shackles are made from 1/2 X 2" flat stock CRS and measure 7" from end to end. These shackles are 1" longer than the original shackles from bolt to bolt, 1/4 thicker, and 1/4 wider... I decided to build these shackles to improve the strength with the increased drive train weight, improve driving stability by slightly increasing the caster angle, and to insure I have plenty of tire to fender clearance when the suspension settles (New skyjacker leaf springs drop nearly 1" from when first installed to end of break in period. I expect at least 1" of drop or more over the next year with the increase in drive train weight.

Now you tell me! Thanks a lot LOL:zombie3:

Do you have a resource for those parts for future reference?

Lol. Sorry brother, I just started reading this. Or I'd of mentioned it before. I can get it for you, don't know the number off the top of my head.

The second gen air to air coolers fit pretty good on the swaps if its mounted upside down as well. They're all aluminum. No plastic tanks. And they're cheap and readily available.

Just caught this thread. . . . Great work it's nice to see someone using a 24v and embracing the tech instead of running from it. . . Sub'd for updates
