you can do what you want with your truck, its yours. But I must be crazy because I would never take a working winch off a truck.

Everyone trims eventually, even on the nice rigs. You inevitably squash fenders if you lack clearance. Then there's the typical rust points that end up being replaced regardless.

You can always replace sheetmetal. At least that's what I tell myself and I am the original Driveway Queen.

Alas I have no more cherry.

I did not really want to remove the winch, but when i replaced the exhaust it was not even close to clearing and there was no real way to re-route it to the front.
This is where it ran before.

Different angle, but headers got in the way.

I am planning on running the winch to the back. Its a braden pto winch, aluminum casing, i believe its rated for 9000 or 10,000 lbs.

Subscribing. :D Geez, if you listened to some of these replies, you'd think you'd cut off someone's cajones.:eek1: THEY ARE JUST FRONT FENDERS. It was like $80 for brand new ones last time I checked. '87 pick-ups are special, but it's because they are TBI not special front fenders. Maybe I'm just spoiled living in the desert with no salt. :wink1: Anyways great start on your build. What could be better than starting with a one ton. You have just begun and you're gear is tougher than some guys that have been wheelin' and buildin' for years. Good luck and take all advice with a grain of salt (esp mine). :p:

Not just "front fenders". You're missing the point here. Try finding an '87 V30 Silverado in the shape and condition this one was. Just go try and find one. Good luck. I don't care if you find a K5, 10 or 20 in as good shape as this truck, the keyword here is Silverado one ton 4x4 in '87 year. Now look for one for me.

makes sense now. I thought you had a hydraulic winch with the PTO driving a hydraulic pump. can you just flip everything around and run it to the back?

I have not looked at it that closely yet, but no it does not just flip around. In the 15 mintues that i had the PTO cover off and looking around in there, i think what i saw was that i needed to pull 2 bearings off and flip the drive. I was really hoping that the whole PTO setup could just flip around, but it doesnt. I will look at it again when i get to that point. If anyone knows anything about it i would love to find out. I mentioned something about running a hydraulic pump off the pto to power this milemarker, but for now im just going to run it off the steering pump with the hope of reusing the other winch too.
As for what mini_mull said, i was originally looking at a 1/2 ton that the same guy had for sale, worse condition and i was planning on finding some 1ton axles out of a M1008 to put under it. The guy had this truck sitting there and after driving both of them, i could not pass this one up. Might have cost a little more, but like you said, started with the 1 ton. When i found out he had a set of 37x12.5x16.5 SSRs in his garage and would take trade for the wheels and 33s that were on it, that just made the whole deal easier. Truck was already lifted, but i decided to replace the blocks with the shackle flip. Minus the overloads and a couple leaves, the rear now actually flexes a little instead of feeling like a block off wood is back there. The front suspension is now the stiffest part and sometime over the summer i will be working on that.

It being an '87 that happens to be a TBI basically doesn't mean anything to me. I could care less really between 1981 and 1991, just as long as it's a super clean truck with factory hardware all still remaining, strait panels, no rust, and most importantly... a factory loaded out fully optioned truck. It's easy to find a K10 that is fully optioned as there are tons of them around and many of the original buyers just wanted a loaded car with a pickup bed, so born is a Silverado K10. Now..... try finding a clean K30 fully loaded Silverado..... a model that was primarely bought by ranchers, farmers, and construction people that planned to put it through it's paces and while having the order sheet in front of them "checked" Scottsdale as they say "why would I pay more for the Silverado package when it won't make it pull my gooseneck any better?":wink1:

There are a few of us that have wet dreams of finding an older mint condition K30 loaded Silverado that some older fellow ordered to pull his RV on the weekends, and that was stored inside and treated well. I found that truck myself, but had to pay $4350 for mine.:doah:

Same here, I just figured he had a hydraulic pump coming off the PTO port.

Is there anyway to convert that winch to work with a hydraulic motor? Then you could get away with just some small say 1/2" line running down the frame out to your winch.

Let's stop cluttering up his build thread with whining about cut fenders, I know you don't have a mint K30, or in RJs case all of the mint K30s in the world :wink1: , but if you really wanted one and were willing to pony up the bucks you could find one. Anyways, it's an awesome truck. What are you doing next Dunleavy? What are the plans to make the front more flexy? Or how about some more pics gettin' it dirty.

next up on the truck is the crossover steering that should be shipping today. Also this weekend i am planning on building the winch mount for the milemarker.
For front suspension im looking at the tuff country springs and some rancho long travel shocks.
Pics of truck getting dirty, more of the same. Ill get some more soon.

Not really a picture of the truck getting dirty, but i just used it to go to the liquor store.
n12812172_31945999_9646.jpg

The way i figure it, assuming everything weighs about the same as water...
22cases x 24 cans/case x 12 ounces/can x 1gal/128ounces x 8.34lbs/gal = 412 lbs of beer.

42 handles liquor and mixers x 1.75 liters/handle x 1 gal/3.78 liters x 8.34lbs/gal = 162 lbs liquor & mixer

60, 2 liters x 2 liters/bottle x 1 gal/3.78 liters x 8.34lbs/gal = 264 lbs of coke

8 gallons of juice x 8.34lbs.gal = 67 lbs

Total weight = 905 lbs of fun

Should make for a fun night.

Don't listen to these HATERS. Cut it and FK it up. It's yours. It's not like you lowered it, but then again if you had, you probably would not be hanging out here and going to the store for NattyLight!

Keep on keeping on and don't mind these PIRATE suck arses arounf here.

No offense you suck arses, but that is what you sound like. His truck is not that RARE ( a word thrown around WAY too much due to the ebay generation), it's not like it is a ZL1 Camaro, or a Vert Chevelle with a BB! Jeez give the man a break!

Nice. Very nice attitude, Adam. Congratulate yourself. You just made the $#!t list.

What's the prize?

I have no attitude and I do not clog these nice build threads telling people how WRONG they are for doing what they do, young man.

It's all in good fun and if Mr. Dunleavey can take the abuse you are dishing to him then you should be able to take the abuse I am dishing you, eventhough I did not make it personal by calling YOU out.

If you need an apology to make yourself feel better, then I will publicly apologize to everyone.

But, if that is the case, I will then go on a mission to find the cleanest & RAREST, if you will, Truck/Blazer/Suburban and cut it up, just for you.

Go back to all my posts and let me know where EXACTLY I told Dunleavy how he should build his truck. All I've said along was "its his truck and money". I was clearly stating the obvious which was my opinion.

I don't need your apology. I do ask of you to watch how you call out all of us as "HATERS" and "suck arses". No one here tolerates the name calling, so I'd watch your back if I were you.

BTW, go ahead and find whatever rare and clean truck you want. I don't give a rats ass. It's your money. In the end, we will be laughing at you for making the ass of yourself here.

I respect Dunleavy for his opinion of his buildup. Not once have I read him getting upset at us for "bashing" him. I respect him for this. I have not once personally made an attack towards him like you are to us "HATERS".

BTW, again, don't call me "young man". Chances are, I'm a lot older and wiser than you. Frickin' n00b.
