87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

maybe I should just get the LMC round ones and sell my 4 87 rectangular ones... think that decent older rad support i have would work as is then.... it's a single bucket...

get the #0281's

Yep, those are the ones I was thinking about when I posted. I figure the relay mod alone makes a world of difference, so combing that with the halogens will literally be like the difference between night and day. :woot:

Whatever lenses you choose to go with, i'd add an HID bulb kit. The kits are cheap, reliable (on the street, worth proving on the trail), and BRIGHT. The BMW forums i'm on recommend the DDM tuning HID kids, they have had better luck with those than the off-brand eBay ones. Plus, if you wire it with the right plugs, you can swap back to stock bulbs in the event of an HID failure on the trail.

If i were you, i'd go with the LMC lenses, which are probably better (build, not light focusing) quality than the Ebay ones you posted, and add a DDM HID kit.

I personally have the slim ballast ones, and DD the car and have had no problems in over a year. The raptor's weren't available when i got mine.

that was my plan with the 4 rectangular LMC's.. I like the LMC housings, and i was just gonna upgrade the bulb down the road... i may go right for an HID setup in it initially, trying to make my harness as "final" as possible this time out...

I'll make this work, I've never seen it done before....

Good luck. HID harness would be plug and play with the stock style bulb harness, so nothing really would change by adding HID besides the ballast setup.

Luckily you don't have to fool the Light control module into thinking your bulbs aren't burned out with a resistor like you do on BMW's......

... what would a SICK aftermarket ROUND dual filament headlight be? is there such a beast? Lightforce, Hella, whatever? i mean i dont wana spend $500, but I'd consider $250, 300....

edit... i see Lightforce doesn't make one..
Delta For Heeps. Also has the option for DRL or turn on a seperate bulb in the housing.

I have the round ones with the Silver Star bulbs in them in my TJ. They kick A$$.

They may be bright, but i think there are better options out there now. You can get a lifetime warranty HID kit for about the price of silverstar bulbs now.

Plus, although the SS's are bright, their life isn't that great. The back of their package even shows this, on a little chart that compares their models on brightness vs. lifespan.

Are you going to use the lmc harness as well?

no need... i already have the relay mod built into my custom harness... alot of that is detailed back on page 2 (100 views per) there will be NO stock wiring when it comes back out this time.. fully flexible, bulletproof electric system...

the only question is if i run HID's if i can put/fit the ballasts over in my electronics box, and how that would effect my existing harness..

2 of those 4 red breakers are the current circuit protection for the 4 bulb headlights i was running...

it's gonna get crowded in there, quick.. I may rework some stuff and add a second box on the ds for the welder and ballasts..... i'll see as it's coming back together...

as it is, i'll still need to mod the custom harness some for dual beam, as opposed to dual bulb.. no big thang, if you saw the systems i do on boats, this is cake........ i build stuff like this at the marina...

Main issue i see is extending the harness on the HID ballast, as they are designed to be mounted w/in about a foot of the bulb.

I have one of the DDM kits on my 98 Ram 1500 and love it so far, I got the 55W 8000 degree one and my lows now put out more light than my highs ever have, even with Silverstars. As far as space goes, if you have space for 2 decks of cards in that box then you have space for the ballasts.

i thought about that after going and looking at the parts on your link.... if i make a similar box for the passenger side, i might be able to sneak one in each box, if not on the inside of the rad support would be no huge tragedy...

I'd just mount them to the back of the core support. I think i would want them to not be contained in a box, as they have some pretty serious heat sink's on the exterior.

Hey Ryoken I know Weld doesn't make the wheels like you have anymore but any idea where someone might find a knock off of that wheel??

I'm really not sure wth will look good on my '72 and those are kinda what I wanted.

/end hijack :doah:

no hijack whatsoever...

just a little ramble about the rims.... as most know, I'm pretty oldschool... this definitely applys to rims too... i'm very particular about what I like in a rim... maybe this will describe how i am with that. i remember back in the mid, late 80's when everyone started coming out with directional rims.. spoke on an angle gig..

well, i despise that kinda stuff.. like the, what is it? Typhoon? hate em with a passion... I like very traditional rims in trucks and hotrods, super singles, centerlines, alum slots, etc.. thus why i dig the super singles so much, I also ran Draglites on my last Chevelle..

and now to your ACTUAL question...... :doah: ummmm, no, i'm no help, other than used on the usual haunts, eghey, CL, etc... and i don't think anyone makes similar...thats why i jumped all over these when they came up, i knew they where out of production... thanks Vinnie!!!

I really like alum slots on our trucks too.... :saweet:

I hate when rims get discontinued. Especially considering the ridiculous amount of ugly rims that are on the market today.

I wish i could track down a set of these (or wish i had taken them off before i sold this rig). The caps say alcoa, but pretty sure they were Mickey Thompson rims.

Yup me too. Every once in a while i'll see a set for sale but they're always narrow 5 or 6 lug. While i'm not really sure what I want yet I feel the same you do on wheels. I HATE having the same thing as everyone else. (Case in point) my friends all pretty much have the same wheels. MT classic IIs.

It's why I went with the ones I got plus I got them cheap.

I'll just have to keep searching I guess.

I like the Classic's, but think the holes look too big on the classic II's. And really, even having classic's is pretty rare these days (or at least in CA).

Which alum slot wheels are you 2 referring to? Pic?

those are cool....

I was all set to just blast the steelies with some black.. beadlock em down the road... and these turned up... it's cool, I'll do 2 sets of tires at some point...

today's side hi-jack cool pic o' day from Ryoken........
