In all reality the biggest problem I could see would be in deep thick mud, not 4 feet or water with some dirt at the bottom but mud you can walk on without getting your shoes dirty, but you can't drive a truck across it at all.

In that kind of mud I have had it 4" thick on every semi flat surface on the truck. In that kind of mud it would totally block the cowl opening.

Trust me Paul I like different. Your truck is (in my mind) mostly form following function. Now sometimes that's because you have determined a weird function you want the truck to do

a lot of the "outside the box" ideas and designs I do, I feel are often looked at like that... they somehow offend peoples thoughts of sensible or something...

I must not have very many sensible thoughts.

It would be sick to make that cowl "bird blocker" out of the same mesh as the grill but probably seriously difficult to do.

you think that a stock tube/tophat setup or one of these pvc 1/2 a$$ snorkels people run even comes close to flowing what that opening will?

gimme a break, not a chance...

I think the gauges will hardly be noticed in that opening, I mean if this hole can feed 500c.i. at 10K rpm, I think your good.

I bounced around the idea of modding the very back of the hood.. obviously anything I want to do with glass, I can... I really don't wanna mess with the metal cowl if i can... they're low enough as it is.. tho it's feasable, and wouldn't mess with the hood line, which i really don't wanna do.. It would just look/be a bit easier with a tad more room.. get a little more angle going...

toyed with moving them to center, and doing 3 little raised humps at the very back edge of the hood... I could also raise the entire back lip a bit... but I really like the hoodlines as they are.. I'll have a couple weeks before I get to the hood underside work, gotta finish the pan first, so I've got some time to tink about it...

I figured by saying it would be real hard to do you might take it as a challenge and just go for it.

Some of the mods you pull off look so clean and subtle to the eye but are crazy difficult to do. This thing is amazing and seriously awe inspiring.

ya got me revved on that one now... definitely the way to go, just gotta make it happen now... making the grill will be fun. the round rod will be easy to bend, some dainty mig work.. the big pain is ALWAYS the mounting... I'd guess 3/4 of the work on the front grill was the tab/bracket work..

I'll probably do some slip-on clips on small fiberglass ledges with self-tappers holding the grill in...

thats a RARITY on the truck.. the only other self-tappers i can think of on the truck are for the softtop mount/molding...

I also looked at all this again tonight, and i think I have a plan... just trying to figure out what I need to do about the flapper down the road...

my varment blocker should emulate the stock screen nicely..

I'm strongly thinking of doing initial fab on the flapper right now.. but I haven't quite worked out what I'm doing yet.. i have some of the parts, but not all..

i have the hinges, flow control valve and vac actuator i need

and some parts that wont be used... but I really need the actual door assembly which is about a c-note...


and eventually down the road I want to add a tcs solenoid to control the actuator, which is about another 100......

don't really feel like spending the hundy now on the door, I just wanna make sure I screw myself as little as possible down the road...

This is an electric solenoid to control something vacuum actuated, right? Where did you find it?
If so I've been looking for something like it to control my fresh air door via push button on my truck.

Oh and the truck looks sick . The hood/intake setup will work very well I think. I know it makes a huge difference on mine in terms of underhood temps.

it's a Transmission Control Spark solenoid they run on vettes and such.... I think I can basically use it as a rocker switch fired solenoid to allow vac to the actuator.. that way I can shut it down in rain, etc.. feel like watching the flapper work, hit the switch..




and thanks.. it felt REALLY good to be working on it this weekend.. intermixed with a full brake job on the Nogo

well, apparently the rig didn't dig the whole tipsy lampshade thing, the salad bowl won out with a better angle...



taped, waxed, PVA'd....

2 layers of 8 oz cloth and one med mat inbetween...
