87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

eh, it's not as clean as it looks... scratched up and chalked out somewhat... I could prolly get 3 to 400 for it maybe.. not certain how the "used dockbox" market is.... but I think it's storage value to me might be greater... but yeah, if it's just too big, or doesn't work for holding steel, etc, that'll be a good option! :waytogo:

and plenty of OT for parts these days.... ;)

I just bought one of these dry chop saws.

The videos are very impressive.

I went through the dry saw, cold saw, band saw dilemma this weekend bc my abrasive chop saw always leaves me wanting more. I settled on this bc i pretty much exclusively cut tubing.

Doesn't have all the versatility of a band saw, but doesn't take up floor space and is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Should be here tomorrow. I ordered it through amazon, so if it disappoints me at all, it's going back and then I will be trying to find money for a band saw.

One of my gripes about the band saws I checked out was that their base/clamping table was not very large. Made me think I was going to have to do a lot of work setting up support on either side. How is the clamping setup on the balleigh?

what did it run ya? I seem to remember the dry saws runing in the 6, 700 range.. and it is one I've certainly considered too.... my rigid abrasive 14" built my blazer... :haha:

but yeah, the blade shifts now, so accurate cuts are no more... and the spark stuff certainly gets old.. my cutting is pretty deverse size and shape-wise, tube, strip, etc..

I really want a bandsaw, so I can have one automatic tool that I can set and walk away! :haha:

give a review at some point, I'll be curious to hear how you like it..

I know this may be a pricier option but thought I'd share none the less. I work for Dake Press Corp. We offer a huge line of saws including cold saws, vertical band saws, and horizontal band saws. Alot of our product can be seen on show suck as OCC Choppers, Gears, Trucks, Extreme 4x4, Horsepwer tv, and etc. you get the idea. If you have seen any of those shows you have seen our stuff. Like I said I know the stuff can be more on the pricy side but we are an American made company. I am a machinist here and I use all of our saws for different things. I use a horizontal band saw mainly and can cut 6" bar steel in about 45 seconds with it.

this would certainly be a badarse addition to the Lab

just can't justify 1700... really want to keep this under 800....

one huge plus I just realized while swapping to the box was I wont have to deal with barrels and bucket's with a 1/2" of sanding spooge dust down in the bottom any more... :eek1: :woot: :haha:

100_0397_zps2610b6c9.jpg

and I just cleaned those after Sandy... :eek1: :grind:

it was always annoying when you where gonna paint or something and you wanted to do a real good blow out of the garage, you had to kinda go lightly by the barrels or all kinds of clouds would come out... :doah:

should help keep the Lab much cleaner...

another reason I really like this is when closed, it's the perfect flat storage spot/shelf to stack a bunch of the large Tupperware bins I use for rags, parts, moving blankets, etc... I should able to store 4 of em on top easy peezy... actually probably 6 if I wanted.. :pimp:

it's not ideal metal/glass storage, but I think it will help...

That box would come in handy in case you needed to "take care of a problem"...and bury it out back...:haha:

heck, you could fit a pair, or 1 Chris Christie in there! ;)

stoked..... :woot:

toys coming too... yay! tracking #'s and brown santa!

going plywood shopping tomorrow night... gonna get some nice grade 3/4....

the other thing about The Coffin, is it's longer down that wall... which brings into play the blast cabinet size, fitting, etc...

it takes up enough that, with moving the belt sander stand and buffing machine of Doom cabinet off that wall leave a perfect spot between The Coffin;), and my drill press, to run a 48" blast cabinet.. perfect...

but the obvious issue now is finding a new home for the belt sander and buffer stand..

which, I just thought of the perfect spots for both.... :haha: sander next to the Quincy on the right, and the buffer cabinet to the left, under the stairs...

the only issue with that is those wont be operating areas.. tho I could in a pinch there is power there.... i'll have to bring them around to the other bay usually... so their wheels are good.. :pimp:

but I think it's worth it.. that far wall should be set up pretty bada$$ than, coffin, blaster, drill press and lathe... :saweet:

You got good filtration on the Quincy? sanding dust bother those? :dunno:

touchy subject for me... always blowing that thing off trying to keep it fresh and clean.. but it does have a bit of overspray on it... if I spend a day on it, I can get it minty again.... that's next winters lab project, clean and enclose the compressor in it's own little room under the stairs there....

and just the stock intake filter that I change when I do the oil change...

I really need to get a full blown system in there.. I run that huge killer binks separator right off the tank, than right to my 25 hose... :haha:

eh, once it has the room, I can run pipe, drains, etc, out into the Lab

it does ok, but it's not ideal moisture prevention, etc..

Somebody told me or I read somewhere that you should never use compressed air to clean a compressor motor if there is metal work around because it will blow metal dust into the motor and short it.

I haven't cleaned mine at all because of this....

Obviously you have run yours a long time and not had any trouble like that...so maybe that's an old myth...:dunno:

oh, that worked out pretty sweet....

all the long steel and glass on the bottom, up to tall corpse length... than the 5's and crate... and if I swap over to like 4 or 5 long milk crates turned sideways to sit on top of the long stuff, it could be really killer.. i'll have to dig up some of the larger ones..

but what I really dig is the stacking... :woot:

I could EASILY run 4 more lightly filled ones on top, 3 high, 12 total... :pimp:

Ryoken likey.... :saweet:

that's the one thing I've been anal about since day one with that thing is blowing out the killer Baldor electric motor ALL the time.... thus it's always been my desire to enclose it.... I do it almost daily when I'm doing any kind of dusty work...mines all bondo-y/paint sanded kinda dust tho... no metal...

How's the floor paint holding up....I may do that this summer...I'd like to have the flakes sprinkled in...

our office at the marina just got renovated, new concrete floor.. they used the tan rusto with the flakes.. it looks real good on the office floor...

the paints good.. it's pretty damn tough, it holds up to thinner and me dragging steel stuff across it without issue so far...

Lookin good man. The lab has really came along from the first stuff I remember you posting. THe dungeon really was a dark dingy place compared to the clean well lighted place it is today. That box really helps to clean up that corner.

thanks, I'm so glad I spent the last 6 months redoing it.... I think it makes me work better, more efficient, clean up easier, etc...

I'm gonna tentatively split my efforts up this way over the next 6 months, 20% Lab/tool stuff, 30% Mutt bodywork stuff and 50% on the Blazer.. than hopefully I can bump that K5 # up into the 80/90% range this fall.... do the tube bed next summer or the following..
