the stupid things you have to do....
so, when I came up with this cloysterflock idea of the plexi insert... I did a quickie mesh of the area in question, and saw it was just about 3" high... ok, awesome, i'll get 3" x 30" plexi...
but, I knew this was gonna be tight...
as you can see in this one pic, as the sheetmetal gets to the trim recess, it drops in about a 1/4"...
well, I knew I would have to cut straight across from that upper and lower hole edge...
than I'd need to bend the lip, and hammer it smooth, so I could get every mm of sheetmetal so the edges of plexi where covered, and the majority showing.. in addition, it gives me some chance of building/securing the frame I have planned...
here you can see where the peak was, and how I'm flattening it going around... I'll finish the hammer/dolley work off tomorrow..
but here is the plexi behind it.. 1/8" of sheetmetal all the way around...
once I build the frame to hold the whole assembly, it'll be absolutely perfect... the LED's will be hidden by the sheetmetal, and lighting up the plexi from just off the edge..
can't start the frame till some time next week tho.. the LED order didn't come in.. and I need those to determine frame spacing/mounting...
kinda fun, splitting time between the cabinet and dash... plenty to keep me occupied..
