87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

I miss my Blaze everyday especially this summer. And i coulda drove it if i just fixed a simple problem. Just didn't wanna work on it at the time. Drinkin was more important :doah: :haha:

Are you thinking on board welder? I am curious to hear you plan for that.
I'm thinking 160 amp alternator, in the ac compressor position.

well, my intention at this point is aftermarket.. after looking around, I really like Powermasters setup, but it's pricey.. like I said, down the road.. as long as I "allow" for it in my system beforehand...

OBA will come WAY before that... I'll do that as I DD it... actually the welder'll be a DD project too..

but I'll pull it back off the road to do the motor and cage, when the mill starts sh*tting the bed...

this summer was wierd..... I usually spend the cold months drinking jack and cokes, beer all summer..

I think I've drank, maybe a case of beer this summer.. but man, I've probably had about 3 or 4 gallons of Jack.... damn mechanics happy hour! :haha:

Man I wish I could find all these bolt on parts you are using. It sure would be nice not to have to create my own wiring harness from scratch.

You know I am only messing with you, I have already learned a lot from how you have done things, as well as private discussions.

Man, your work is quite the inspiration. Gotta start saving money and grow the balls to take mine off the road to do these things. It's tough looking at it covered in snow all winter, by spring I just gotta drive it! Your project is looking awesome! Keep on teaching us!

hey thanks man, that means alot... I'm just just an old mechanic/body guy who's been around awhile... The internets a funny thing, never would I have thought any of my work would be helping anyone out.. fun stuff... thanks again!

ryoken raising the bar on builds -- and you are killing me i feel like mine is a pile of junk

ah, but you have a runnable, effective wheeling rig... :D Hopefully I wont be driving a Volvo wagon in 6 months and have a very capable rig, that I can take to work when I want, yet perform well on the trails and at some point, almost be considered a repair vehicle...

some minor update pics tomorrow...

Lookin pretty good for a bunch of bolt-ons, bro!

It's been forever since I've looked at this thread.

Your work is really great! I wish I had the patience,experience,tools,space... I could really go on for a while, It is just good to see pride of ownership with a ton of BULLETPROOFING going on! Love it! keep on keepin' on

Thanks for the interest....

got some photos to put up, I'll do a full update come sunday.. fair amount of labor flying.. been a bad week personally, so I've had to juggle my commitments... Hopefully, I'll have finished smoothing the firewall and hung the front suspension this weekend........... Did get the x-member and mounts in this week....

eh, for as much as I'm psychotic over my truck, I'm having a rough time devoting any thought to it the last couple days, had to fire a good friend today and it's got my head pretty f*cked up.. :(

anyway, hopefully some good progress will be had this weekend..

I feel for you. Used to run crews building golf coourses. It was tough at the end of construction to narrow down crews. Just about every one that worked for me was a good friend, most of them had to go. Never is very easy.:frown1: God Bless!

I just read your post in the lounge. It has to suck. And I thought I was frustrated at my company. I wish my supervisor would listen. But he doesnt have to do any of the work either.

I find my shop to be a good distraction. Even if its just cleaning up.

I shall be here patiently awaiting pics and progress reports....................

ok, time for a little update...

not too much labor going on, well, stuff I need to wait a couple weeks on.. should have a huge update about 1/2 way thru Jan showing the smoothed frame, firewall, bumperwork, etc....

anyway.... mostly been picking up some parts here and there...

We'll get the silly stuff out of the way first...

picked up part of my steering system and a fairlead awhile back...

Then I really changed tracks when Odin hooked me up with some Weld Super Singles... Definitely wasn't a way I was looking to go... The theme was supposed to be satin black and copper, steel beadlocks, bumpers, etc, not bling.... But being the rig will be on the street 75% of the time I figured why not, and I've always loved those rims..

top left- back untouched... top right- front untouched.... bottom right-back scrubbed... bottom left - back polished

ok, on to more interesting stuff...

picked up an XD9000 (thanks Obijuan!), and clocked the lever 90 degrees.....

weldss2003.jpg

and here's my mockup on the bumper... really was gonna wait on this till it's done, but what the hey.... picking up all the flat and angle iron stuff monday, and hopefully I'll have tube and a bender in a couple weeks...

winch in position... the lever will come thru a hole in the skid...

bumpermockup004.jpg

location in relation to top tube (gotta love oaktag!!)

bumpermockup003.jpg

how the rest of the top tube and removable skid will be... I'm not chopping the horns... the main tube at the end of them allows for some angle to side sections of the main tube...

bumpermockup005.jpg

I'll be running 4 remote filter assemblies behind the main tube, accessable with the skid removed..

obviously the B-52's plate will be lopped off at that angle... also the D-ring mounts are a 3/4 backing plate integrated into the bumper to sandwich the front frame horn.. those will come out straight from the frame and be aprox 1" thick out at the D-ring hole... the skid will be notched to slide over this...

kinda hard to explain, but as I fab it up the next couple weeks, I'll take lots of pics..

also, that tube is 2"... it will then have a stinger from rail to rail on top of that tube that is 2", with angle tubes of 1.75 over to the corners.. and upward 1.75 front supports that run from the forward 2 holes of the B-52 spring mounts to the outer, underside corners...

along the lines of this....

hopefully over the x-mas break I'll get all the flat plate, skid, winch stuff fabbed up... and be set up for doing the tube/bender work mid-jan...

couple things I forgot to mention...

obviously the stinger will be bent hoop style... it will also angle forward 1/2 the angle of the skid.. the side bars will angle accordingly...

the winch mount and lower permanent skid will be detailed more during fab.. The whole thing eliminates the b-52 backing nuts, and makes it one big backing plate for the b-52 on the inside of the frame.. the front 4 bumper holes in the frame are now running thru about 1" of steel, 1/4 b-52 plate, frame then 3/4 stock that runs forward and and becomes the d-ring hole....

pretty stoked on it, should be tight, stout and have an excellent approach angle.........
