87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

thanks..... Those pics are a bit deceiving... the cage slid down a tad on the strap, it actually goes up and back some... got the center tubes in and fitting up the B-hoop now...

I may actually start on the floor next weekend if I get my cage flanges...

here's the last of the weekend pics... once my gussett's come in, I can drop the cage for the last time....

How much would you charge to come here and do this same thing if i supply the beer :D

I like it. Very much need to get me one someday :doah:

ROAD TRIP!!!!! :haha:

I'm happy with what I've done so far... that was the pain-in-the-arse stuff... now it gets funner...

it's definitely lacking some triangulation, but I figure with the 2", some gussett's up top, and the triangulation I'm doing for the rest will make up for it...

stoked on getting the 1.5" die at the end of the week... :woot::saweet:

oh, and here's how I'm doing the overhead console...

I'm using Kert's flush panel mount tabs to secure a flat sheet of the black composite I've been using throughout the build between the 2 center tubes.....

I'll be using a combo of those in flush and center, to mount composite panels on the floor console too....

I've also decided to try these for my seat mounting.....

You get 6

Awesome work man. I'm digging the copper.

I saw the poll but what is this rig gonna do? If it's gonna be rubbing trees and rocks then I vote black. Otherwise the copper rules!:saweet::saweet::saweet:

mostly mud and trail rides... I'd have to roadtrip for rocks.. probably 50/50% street/offroad.... it will DEFINITELY see some branch scuffing.. But as I said earlier, that isn't a consideration for me... Not a big deal for me to reshoot anything if I feel the need... put a nice scrape in it, I may not fix it for 6 months, but it'd eventually get fixed...

Tho enamoured with the idea of a color change, I'm leaning torward staying with the current plan... Alot of it is out of convenience... most is in copper now, and I have a couple qrts of the copper sitting in the cabinet for the front clip and an overcoat....

of course I'll probably change my mind a 1/2 dozen times before I paint the firewall! :doah::haha:

thanks for the props.......

if ya liked the hammer/brush spacers, you'll dig my walmanized seat brackets... no termites for me!!?! :haha:

well, I shortchanged myself on 1.5 tube, which I really need, so, I'm just gonna order a stick, and add 2 more 2", and just finish the back of the cage... :wink1: should have enough for the rear winch bumper too....

guessing those are just mock up seat brackets? I'm sorry.... I'm too drunk and stupid right now to decipher what is sarcasm and what is seriousness.

I thought it was funny... alright, I was bored... ;)

yeah just mockup.. getting some final console lines, tube positions, measurements, etc... I've got it pretty much figured out... the center console is going to be pretty psycho, talk about multi-axis bending.... :doah::haha: pretty revved about it....... :saweet:

yup, at 6' 1"... those are the 4" extra tall... eye level is about 1/2 way up the windshield.. as it sits, my noggin is about 8" to 10" from the side tubes, and about 10, 11" to the roof..

but that is one of my remaining unknowns (to be figured out this weekend) is the blue tape mockup piece that I have there, going from the b-hoop forward on the a-tubes.. not sure if that ones gonna be too close.. might size that one down to 1.75, i'll fit something up and see how it looks... I really want to add it for the triangulation/strength factor...

Cage is looking good. I might be hurting for your help when I go to bend my sched 40 hoops up for my bed... I'm scared of that bender, or I should say I'm scared it wont come out symmetrical and I'll waste $80 in pipe....

..... Just bend a little at a time and use an angle finder (keep track of how far it bounces back in degrees) while bending... worst case scenario just splice a correctly bent elbow in with a smaller peice of pipe inside of the hoop and plug weld away..... at least thats what I have done in the past with good results.

Ryoken?

yup, can always add a little more, can't straighten them out... :wink1:

Your welcome to stop down here at the dungeon any weekend and we can see how my Pro Tools dies like pipe... capable of 2" and 1.5" for now...

I gotta say that is getting pretty redneck there! Of course you could have made it even better by using the wood 'mounts' with 5 gallon buckets on top. :haha:

I might take you up on that.... Only problem is I gotta figure out how to get two 20 footers of pipe there :doah:

O and is it 2" OD or ID cause the stupid sched 40 pipe is ID measurements and DOM is OD as far as I know.
