87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

I gotta say that is getting pretty redneck there! Of course you could have made it even better by using the wood 'mounts' with 5 gallon buckets on top. :haha:

hey, you been spying on me?!???! :haha:

how do you think I stripped the ceiling, etc? :wink1:

I live by 5 gallon buckets in the garage, perfect seat for my fat arse!

I might take you up on that.... Only problem is I gotta figure out how to get two 20 footers of pipe there :doah:

O and is it 2" OD or ID cause the stupid sched 40 pipe is ID measurements and DOM is OD as far as I know.

yup, OD..... tho, iirc, 1.5 pipe is 1.9 OD... pretty close to 2.. might be doable without f*cking up the dies...

Ryoken... what bender are you using?

Pro Tools 105 HD

oh, a quick review on the bender from me...

works freakin awesome... the only issue I've had was the "cinch" bolt, thru the die to snug the pipe, had to be reworked by me on the 2" die.. for those familiar with the 105...

I found that 3/8 bolt it comes with getting all gnarled up and bent.. I actually had to cut it and drill it out... so, what I did was oversize it and tap it.. now I run a 1/2 fine thread in there, works killer....

God damn this rain man...

I gotta see how far along I get this week. Possibly stop in this coming weekend. I'll bring my HF pipe bender to, its small as hell. Perhaps some of the dies will fit your. I've heard they can be pretty interchangeable between some machines.

Perhaps I'll just pick up two lengths of 2in DOM...

we should combine an order... fazio wanted like 7, $8 a foot for 2" DOM when I called.. thats why I went with getting it shipped to work thru Keystone out of Del... ended up being between 5 and $6 a foot shipped....

but hey, if you can get a deal, I'm in if it helps... I'm looking for 1 stick of 1.5", and 2 or 3 sticks of 2".... I'm definitely gonna wanna get some more tube over the next few weeks...

shoot me a pm or something when ya get a plan of attack...

O wow I guess i read that sign wrong. I coulda sworn DOM was around $2 a foot there... yeah we'll definitely do that if its cheaper.

Btw when did you call? I was there like a month ago.

I'd guess that was about 3 months ago... he didn't even have it, but could get it... I later found out they get it from Keystone.. probably just tack a couple bucks on...

anything other than tube, I got a pretty good in with a welder friend... he's got quite the shop and selection of strip steel, angle, etc....

side note...... it's looking like the trucks gonna end up with about 210' of tube or so in various sizes if my guestimation is correct... :eek1:

Holy damn, $1200 cage...

Yeah if DOM is that much over at fazzios I'm just gonna get sched 40. I'll bring my bender just incase it starts kinking. I keep reading on pirate that sched 40 of the same od as DOM is actually stronger...

ya had to tell me that, didn't ya? :haha:

I was trying to ignore the cost factor..... :wink1:

eh, as said, I'm stubborn, I want what I want...

gimme a holla when ya wanna do something... back to notching...

Yeah I definately will. Possibly this upcoming weekend if your up for it. I gotta see about starting my new dash today since its raining. Guess thats what I'm gonna do since I gotta find something to get done in my 10' x 10' little shop/shed.

this shows the floor level, and the down tube/ staked cage flange to be installed when the floor goes in...

here's the back... still need to do the 2 diagonals, and the short continuation one from the "armrest" one back to the B-hoop.. the b-hoop also gets a center down tube/cage flange in the middle...

couple rambling build notes too....... :wink1:

I'm not using the big plastic Y-diverter for the defrost.. The inner dash rollbar runs right where it goes... I've come up with a much better, albeit, much more work solution...

I'm going to be using the center, dash speaker hole (modified to a rectangle) and making my own composite fiberglass one off of the Summit unit...... much cleaner non-obtrusive install...

this will also contain a seperate split ducting to the left and right floor vents from the other heater feed... they will come out of the lower side console panels... I'm not gonna bother trying to put a door/flapper in it to switch from floor to defrost.. tho it would be doable, and damn trick, I'm really not concerned about it.. I may think about it when designing the duct, to be added later, but it'd probably be a little time consuming to get it dialed-in perfect at this point...

all of this also means that it looks like I'll be recovering my dash myself at some point.. I've done a couple before... I dont feel bad about hacking it up, as it's hammered already.. once I get it all fitted up, modded, etc, I'll recover it down the road...

side, side build/personal note.......... :p::haha:

it looks like the truck is gonna get me full time for 2 weeks coming up very SOON. I'm quiting my job tomorrow... I start my new job, July 13.... 1 mile from my house... might, or might not see a rant post on this... I just can't take it anymore.... I'm sad about it, 2 in my shop are very, very close friends. :(

but the company can eat d*ck....

but I'm taking 2 weeks off between... tho a couple immediate purchases may have to be put on hold, expect big progress in that time... I'd like to have the forward 1/2 of the cage done, and the floor... if I can afford my tube order, the whole cage...

I like your idea for the defrost. I was thinking how I was going to do mine and I may have to attempt the same thing. I am going to strip down my dash and fiberglass over it, which would be the perfect time to make a duct spot for the defrost.

yeah, I'm gonna try and stay vinyl on the dash in the end.. I want that look...

the dash cage bar wanted to be tucked all the way in the back, and that runs directly under the 2 long skinny defrost holes (gotta take some pics of that)... I'm actually glad.. tho it'll probably be a bunch of work, I can really control my use of the space, etc...

still have to keep in mind, locating the PC, ECM, etc... also, I confirmed today that I'm going to be losing my upper left dash gauge.. I figured I would, with the tube coming thru the dash, no biggie...

Well atleast your truck will see some lovin. Sorry about the job situation. Of course you gotta be happy where your workin

Sorry but not really sorry about the job. It sounded like they were really beating you down, and you should be much happier in the new situation.

Plus we get to see two weeks of work to get this thing back on the road.:waytogo:
