87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

You clearly haven't read the thread, since the 1.5 years in the garage is only since he bought his daily driver. Much of the work that was done prior to that was done over a weekend and the truck had to be running to get him to work on Monday. That includes his trick circuit panel in the glove box and the associated wiring that goes with it.

As for the replies, Paul is a brother we all respect and remain in awe of his skill, we will support him even if it is just a comment about the troubles he is going through. I am sure that Paul appreciates the support.

Your right... I haven't read the whole shebang as it's longer then a novel but I can defenitly relate to the whole downtime in the garage/storage thing. I wish I had the means is all I'm saying.... it sucks to have to drive to a storage unit with no 110v outlet and try to accomplish anything.

I am sure he appreciates it too but this is a build thread...

However it's his thread and he can do what he wants with it.... just got the feeling he didn't want replies.

Either way mad respect ryoken.

it's all good... I do appreciate the support, just didn't want anyone to feel obligated to reply.. that post had about 112 shots of Wild Turkey behind it.... :o

really hope my cage flanges and tabs show up today, really need that stuff... :weld::grind:

I feel like such a quitter.. :(

no replies necessary... just something I had to type out... :o

I know how you feel I am loyal to a fault (its what has me in my current not so happy situation)

anyway my compliments on the work so far.

The cage is going to be way strong

As an act of CK5 solidarity, I will go into the shop this weekend and get something accomplished too. There is nothing like fresh pics from all the other build threads to keep your motivation alive, and to help get through an occasional "Oprah moment".... :wink1:

I also find that some angry music can help get the testosterone / adrenaline flowing which seems to help. Easier on the body than 112 shots of whiskey!

Chin up bud! :waytogo:

one of the door tube...

tucked in pretty nice... the 2 tubes for the console will come thru the dash and attach to that one..

gotta finish the other door tube and B-pillar, then I get going on the console and seat tubes and the floor...

btw, thanks guys, I do appreciate the kind words....

what was bad about my job change just got worse in the form of lady troubles... I've been pretty distraught and heartbroken the last couple days... something I swore, after beating myself up for months about with my ex-wife, that I would NEVER let happen again..... sometimes ya can't help it, wimens be funny like that! :doah::crazy::rolleyes:

anyway, I'm trying to fight thru it by grinding, welding, and cranking some raucous tunes ( thanks Greg :D)..... my hearts not in it much right now, but I'll keep at it.... try to give myself some sanity... time and mig wire heal all wounds I suppose... :(

well I guess your only human Paul....sucks to go through that stuff.
I feel for ya man.

The truck work is looking great as usual.
Taking on any metal fab jobs yet? If you let these pics out around the area, you'll have people beating your door down to do work for them.

nah, no side stuff yet... my chit takes up so much time at this point... but hopefully my new short commute will help out with my schedule... maybe after the truck is roadworthy, I'll start taking some stuff on...

lets see:thinking: Kzoo to Jersey shore and back....1500mi.
4 day weekend to make trip.
gas, parts & labor ?$?$?$?$
Pauls Preschool fabrication instruction: Priceless:haha::haha::haha:

nice.... :haha::haha::haha:

I suppose the truck itself will be pretty good advertising for any custom work someone wants... I'd venture to say it could be called a "Ryoken Product Platform" at this point.... :doah::haha:

Ohhhhhh Damn! Well, Paul, I just finally got a computer that is the household machine and not my works PC or Laptop and now I have access to all the pics and attachments everyone posts since there is now work related firewall.

Looks like I got to go back about 13 months and now see everything I could only read before. So far looks awsome. Keep it up bro. And good luck with wherever your career takes you.

The cage looks real good so far, I like how it's tucked in the dash. You've definitely done more work on your truck than I would even imagine of attempting, it definitely will be impressive when it's finished

Welding the cage is a lot harder than it looks, I definitely learned that pretty quick

PS: dimple dies for 100 bucks, I know you want them :wink1:

thanks.... I've lucked out on the welding so far, dropped it for all that top stuff.. the dash bar was pretty scary tight, but I managed to nail some decent bead on those... I figure at some point I'll have to try out Rene's "shieldless, flux core" idea... just wish my beads where as sexy as Kerts! :doah::bow:

ah, dies.... for as cool as they are, and I'd like to do a project some day utilizing some, I honestly haven't thought of an app for my truck where they would "fit".... with all the fiberglass panels and such, there hasn't seemed to be a way to work that look into the build..

tho you did just give me a thought.... I am doing Kerts "web" gussets up front in some joints... mainly out of convenience, and thought they where a pretty cool look.. I do enough fab, gotta buy a few things... :wink1:

but boy, I'm thinking that back cage section might really look good with some custom speedholed gussets.. kinda play into the prerunner look... just not sure how stupid it'd look using web gussets thruout the front, than another style out back...

Paul, have you thought about accessory mounts (fire ext. grab handles, jack mounts, etc.) on the cage anywhere?

yup, to some extent.. I have some tab stuff ordered with Kert... and I've also looked around at stuff on http://fourtreks.com/roll_bar.html

I more than likely will use them for extinguishers, shovel/axe and hi-lift mounts... they're just pricey as he!!..... :eek1::(

shovel/axe and hilift will be on the back portion of the cage.... extinguishers, haven't decided where yet..

I am welding in grab handles up in the a-pillar corners.... just gotta get around to that one...

time and mig wire heal all wounds

Wise words. BTDT, good advice.

BTW, your cage is seriously overkill even for you, and the welding is gawd-DAYUM-that-seriously-clever sort of stuff.

I also appreciate your posting in-progress pix, as it makes it seem like us ordinary mortals could maybe get close ... as opposed to the magazines where they show us the "before" and the "after" and we say ohm, that's nice, but I can't do that.

CK5 truly embodies the do-it-yourself, "Built Not Bought" spirit.

I should do a bumper sticker saying "BILT!BOT" for the geeks among us :haha:
