Great idea to do your own wiring, then you only have what you want and need.
For the multi cable grommets, you can use plain clear silicone (not RTV) to help seal the small gaps between wires. This is great to seal connector ends too. It doesn't set up like RTV. Its what the Navy uses...
Why are you using the solenoid on the starter along with the remote solenoid? Is there a reason you don't just set up that solenoid in the box as a remote mounted solenoid? It just seems to me that you are just introducing an extra failure point with two solenoids in series like that.
Thanks, yeah, thats the thought.. no frills, just whats needed in the simplest, most accessable, bullet-proof way... no more fuses , fusable links, fru-fu, etc..
thats how we seal lots of wire/dash stuff at the marina, silicone.. Before i put the wire sheath on I'm gonna do that, thanks...
This is the standard remote solenoid mod (well, simplest)... you need to maintain the solenoid on the starter to engage the bendix.. The extra fail point is worth it to run a 1 wire starter...
no juice thru that whole wire to the starter anymore (better cable life), no permanent juice down at the starter lug (less corrosion and better solenoid operation), rest of the power doesn't need to be run off the starter lug anymore, no hot start conditions, etc...
You should see some of the diesel applications in the boats, I've seen 4 solenoids in series...
So far, everything has been, lets just say, robust...

Can't wait to throw that huge honking alternator in, be awhile on that tho..
