87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Thanks Kristie :D Glad someones digging it..

In the end, it should be pretty cool... Can't wait to get all the lettering done...

As for the lexan door, I had originally planned to just use the glovebox door, then I figured I'd see about doing a curved lexan... But after actually getting in there and fitting up the box and figuring out the lines, etc, I realized I could just do a flat panel too easily not to do it..

It's funny how you can get a picture in your mind of how somethings going to look in the end when it's far from that point.. I'm actually thinking the flat panel will look and perform better than a curved door.. The bodylines of the sheetmetal really dictate that I do it that way... GM musta had my project in mind when designing the glovebox.. :wink1:

Most of the stuff is figured out at this point.. My ALDL port is going in the ashtray for laptop diagnostics.. Wasn't sure if I was gonna run it in the glovebox or there, but it's looking like the ashtray at this point..

The only thing I haven't figured out at this point is how the latch assembly for the door will work.. Need to get those 1/4 turns and actually see how it's physically going to work... But other than that, the plan is coming together..

I'm glad I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for the electrical.. I'm getting impatient to get to the suspension and now I can foresee getting to that in the next couple months...

alright whats an ALDL?

got any better pics Paul?

Between my age and your fuzzy photos, I can't make out to much

Yeah, they are pretty crappy.. I didn't think the first was too bad tho...

It's back out right now, but rest assured, pic whoring will no doubtably happen.. :haha:

ALDL is the diagnostic port in OBD1 controlled vehicles.. It's where you read your codes.. normally under the dash by your left leg.. Obviously I'm relocating it..

Hey if you do find a distributor for those quarter turns let me know. I may have you pick up an extra for me and then send you the cash for it.

Not a prob.. I'll let ya know whats available.. Try to be patient with me, things are a little insane right now... got about 3 platefuls going these days...

Anyone have any questions on any of this?

Hopefully it wont take me forever to update my wiring schematic for this whole setup... There are some basic changes and streamlining of the systems that are involved that may be helpful to someone at some point..

All suggestions welcome too, if something I've said doesn't sound copacetic to ya, please speak up...

I'm still up in the air on the lettering for the dash switchs and these breaker circuits.. I've come to the conclusion that I definitely am doing them in the copper of the truck or an orange, real close..

At the moment, I think I may fall back onto my marine contacts and have my good friend who paints names on boats do it in hand painted... Throw him some coin, he'll take care of me... It seems the easiest option at this point.. I hate subbing ANYTHING out, but it may be the smart choice here.. He is amazing..

As opposed to coming up with some stencil or something...

I'll have him do it in real, basic block style font, nothing fancy..

I have a few other tidbits in mind, to add to all these mods down the line, but they are all very optional, so they will be bumped way down the priority list...

next 2 projects will be running gear, and a pretty crazy floor project I have planned...

I think if you have a friend who can do it, definately help him out with some coin and you will get the most professional look you can. The copper should look really good for the lettering.

I am not in a rush for the latch just letting you know that I would definately like to get one when you find them.

I love your design for the breaker panel, that looks clean, it really dresses up the interior.

Thanks man, appreciate it...

It's something I've had brewing in my brain for quite some time and always wanted to do it to a vehicle...

I can picture the truck when it's all done, just gotta get it there.. :doah: :haha:

It looks like I'm gonna do running gear first.. But in reality, I wish I could do the floor project first, my damn seats going thru the floor.. It's far cheaper too, but I'd need to lay the truck up for a couple weeks and not be working eleventy million hrs a week... Maybe mid summer.. Got some pretty cool black with orange insert seats I'm gonna run picked out, but I gotta lay some serious steel and bead first... :doah: :wink1:

I figured that was it, should have rephrased it to what does the ALDL stand for?

Search dumbass:eek1: :haha:

Actually, I am very, very familiar with those.. They are used on tons of boats for cabinet latches, etc...

They are a very nice piece and I had considered them in the beginning.. The reason I decide not to use those is not having a "first touch" type releasing mechanism.. You have to push the button to expose it, then turn it...

Fine for lots of apps, but I want more of that quick release action..

I called again yesterday to my local distributor... After talking to the salesgirl, we came to the conclusion that the best thing to do is for me to call South Co first and find out what #'s they are using to supercede some of the color options I was interested in, then call em back with the current #'s..

Let me know when you find them, and what colors are available. I am thinking that if they have the satin silver it would be a good match with the plans for my interior (blue with gray). Keep up the great work, and keep the pics rolling.

I thought those were the same. Sorry. They have a bunch of different listings for the southco stuff. MAybe they DO have it, I just don't know what I'm looking for exactly.

I tried to help,

Appreciate it... If they are a South Co distributor, they can probably get em.. Alot of products from South Co, gets confusing...

I've been talking to http://www.towerfast.com/ they seem to be implying they can get anything South Co makes, even if they don't stock it..

need to call em back monday...

Just a quick update....

Haven't gotten any latch info, tho I almost stole 2 out of a boat today.. So that reminded me to get back on that.. Not enough hrs in the day...

Now for something a little fun... I put my no frills, no tilt, manual column in this week.. Love it, no cruise and wipers, just a blinker arm.. ..

Note the idiot label over the switches for my inspection guy.. :wink1:

Looking real good on the circuit breaker panel and toggle switches. What did the steering column come out of? I have a wiper switch and a blinker switch on mine. Only now the wipers almost don't work when it rains, or when the windshield is too damn dirty. I'd hate to tear apart the column to replace what broke or is disconnected. Be so much easier to work with the dash instead.
Thinking of doing the column swap and do the switch panels too but it'll take a while before getting around to it.
