Thanks brother, and good luck at the docs.

For the glass, if it helps, I`m doing two bedside panels, which is maybe 2'x6' each, then the wall..which is roughly the same. TIA

I'm really interested in the material as well. Do you have a trade name? What industry is the material associated with? Any help would be appreciated.

You can check the contact info tab to find your nearest distributor... I'm lucky in that my guy is about 45 minutes away and gives me great deals on stuff he has laying around...

They do lots of composite stairs, treads, hardware, etc in addition to the structural shapes such as sheets, I-beams, angles, tube, etc...

It's available in 3 grades... I just use the low-end stuff.. we used to use the mid-grade at work, it's fireproof...

Tell ya what, this whole "forming corners with the angle composite" I came up with, works absolutely killer... So simple and bulletproof... Quite proud of myself for that thought....

It isn't cheap.. 4' x 8' sheets run about $125 to $500, depending on if ya want 1/8 or 1".... It also isn't overly easy to cut... you can cut it with carbide blades, but it really likes diamond tipped... they can be had at depot for about $15... cutoff wheels and grinders do well with it... but it does make a mess.. running a saw thru it creates some serious dust..

it is IMPERVIOUS to weather also....

here's some of the benefits listed on the site..

# Lightweight - less density - 20% of steel; 70% of aluminum
# High Strength - stronger than structural steel pound for pound
# Superior dimensional stability - wide temperature range uses and thermal expansion values better than 50% of mild steel, 35% of stainless steel and 25% of aluminum
# Electrical insulation - better design advantages through excellent dielectric properties
# Thermal insulation - high strength and insulating values
# Corrosion resistance - harsh elements and environments
# Electromagnetic transparency - greater frequency freedom of movement for radiowaves and microwaves

Im trying to find a suitable materal to build my camper out of. I think in a lot of ways, a camper is just a boat thats on water! :haha:

Anyways, I dont know if you can shoot me an email [email protected] maybe you can put me in touch with your guy- or maybe you know off hand how much stuff is, but Im looking for the thinnest panels they have.

I want to use this stuff as the outer skin of the camper, over an all aluminum frame. What do you use to bond to the frame? Just epoxy? also, how are you joining/lapping corners?

1/8" is the thinnest.. and ideal for such a project.. you couldn't ask for a better material to do that... iirc, 1/8" x 4' x 8' runs in the $125 range.. The 1500 series is what I use, and the cheapest version..

if you where going to attach it to an al frame, you would use a polyurethane adhesive, but I would still want to mechanical fasten it too, rivets, screws, something...

as i've talked about in this thread, the procedure I've used on these projects for corners is to use the composite in angle form and wetbedded it into the inside of the corners of the structures with thickened epoxy...

But the product can be used in any regular fiberglass capacity, flatpanels can be joined, or cornered, with typical grinding, tabbing methods used in other , more traditional, fiberglass apps..

I've been using it over 10 yrs now, and can walk anyone thru the ins and outs of it....

You apparently have a couple of distributors in Tonawanda, NY, I'd look them up and give em a call...

Your a heck of a lot closer to me than that location! would take me about 50 min to get to you... the other place would take me a few hours! North Tonawanda, NY is up Buffalo NY, and niagra falls...

I live in NYC, which is only like a few miles from jersey.. even though your by the south shore, its a whole heck of a lot closer!

well, you have this place up in Fairfield, nj, too...

well i just went and looked at that dash ryoken...man that thing is nice. i wont be doing mine for at least another year and a half but when i get ready to maybe you have them already by then or i might have to pm you for instructions to make one for myself. There was a red k5 in petersens a year or two ago that had a custom dash in it that was very nice. I think yours outdoes his though..excellent job!!!!

Thanks for the kind words... Feels kinda lame running around on 32's, but I'm pleased with what I have done so far.. Just wish I was getting to some 37" SSR's a little quicker...

As the link Seafarer was so kind enough to post goes into, yes I am going to be selling dashs... I may as well just a put a little update here on the dash status, etc...

First, to put this all in context, and hey, it is the truck build, so I guess it belongs here... I've decided to cancel my sept camping/fishing trip... Makes me so sad to think about not going, and honestly I deserve one pretty bad, but the timing is just horrible...

I have to get my floors in.. So, I'm staying home and gonna put a 100 hr week in doing my floors, qrters, sliders, etc..

All that being said, I'm pushing up work on the dash... :D working on some supplier things and tech stuff now, but have been heavily gearing up to getting this project going.. If I didn't have the floor project coming up, I'd be going full bore right now...

So, I'm still gonna say it's a x-mas thing... :wink1: But I'm exceptionally optimistic on being able to delivery some initial dashs for the holidays... Obviously, it's not gonna be some huge #, thinking more along the lines of 6 initial maybe 10.. When I feel it's an appropriate time, I will begin a preorder LIST.. Don't expect to see that till oct, nov, when dashes actually start coming out of the mold and I need to know what kinda layouts the initial peeps are wanting...

I know many of you have expressed interest and I will be reviewing the other thread, etc to offer certain people the initial product... I will have my own list and once I start an official preorder list, I will incorporate the 2..

I wanna thank everyone who has expressed interest in my work.. Truly... Some of my projects are VERY time consuming, well, actually all probably, and it really keeps me motivated when people dig it..

Obviously, very much so, I build things the way I want, if in the end it turns out other people are really liking some stuff, and wanting similar, it somehow validates the work I suppose.. I think most are pretty badarse, I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't think so, but hey, different strokes for different folks...

On that note, they'res quite a few here who haven't replied at all, pro or con, but PLEASE if anyone doesn't dig the stuff I'm doing, feel free to tell me.. I wont be pissed, I may offer my reasoning behind my decisions, but I don't want anyone to think they're being rude.. :wink1:
