87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Thanks... I've always built mods like this for my hotrods, trucks... Glad you guys are getting some ideas and motivation from my stuff...

yup, basically the only thing left on the truck at this point is the running gear.. And that may very well get ripped out soon if I commit to going 1 ton now.. The frame has been stripped down to bare steel...

I need to research the Ferd shock tower mod... thats another one i'm doing at this point.. anyone feel like enlightening me on some threads, info, I'd appreciate it... Mainly some stuff on shock geometry...

And the parts train begins... :wink1:

Brown Santa showed up today with the first load.. Aother package waiting down at work for me, and another ORD order coming in next week....

The other stuff coming in... 27 spline input shaft for the 205, matching coupler, fitz-all spacer, 32 spline front output, another set of 0-rates (they forgot to ship), 4" front TC E-Z rides, H.D shackles and ORD's FUSH kit, all greasable...

I'm going 1 ton and x-over now... prepped the frame for the weld-in brace and some filling and smoothing.

Need to fix my welder next so I can get going on the frame work and my floor/slider gig.. Also need to figure out what I'm doing shock-wise..

Next orders will be Kert for some goodness, then Jesse for the e-brake kit, flange and some d-shaft joy....:haha:

Thats ORD's engine x-member.. just clamped in place.. probably gonna mount it today... I'll figure out the back setup once the motor is in...

I have a few anticorrosion methods I'm gonna apply on the frame stuff/parts/work..

Everythings getting done... planning out the hidden winch now, tho it'll be some time before I can get that... Going steelbraided and new oil cooler. stainless exhaust. suspension, tires. all new brake parts, well, mostly. 60. xover. yada, yada.... :haha:

wait till you see the floor/tunnel/slider gig...... :wink1:

I can see heavy OT in the near future! :doah::haha:

Ok that makes sense, I was trying to see if it was the trans crossmember or the engine. So my guess is you then cut out the original cross member correct? Can't wait to see the slider and tunnel.

well, with everything out, once the rivets where done, I just slid it out towards the back intact. todays projects are to figure out my tentative shock avenue and source a 2wd sector shaft..

Few things to figure out, parts to acquire, and a ton of labor ahead of me. But I figure I'm gonna have it down 6 to 8 months, might as well, do it right once and be done... (well, ok, you know what I mean..... :p: )

after this push tho, I'll have to chill for awhile once it's back up and running... no winch, no tube bumpers, no kickin stereo, etc.. Desired gearing (depends on what I pick up) and a detroit will have to wait too.. But I'll be 1 tons and 37"s with a solid drivetrain (good tbi, killer trans, t-case, etc...)

and some other healthy mods already done... Thus the floor..

really need to pick up a chopsaw for the 2" x 4" slider/support stuff... ironing out the details of the trans tunnel this week too.. but priority #1 is to get my welder fixed so I can get going on that stuff... I have all the materials...

did you get those 1 tons or did you already have them?
curious as someone else asked me for the guys number... and I dont want to give it out if you are still debating... :wink1:

Great work man! I've been following this thread from the beginning and I get excited every time I get the email notifying new updates to it. Keep it up!:bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow:

So Ryoken are you planning on floor build like mine???? By the way I'm going to be building a custom tranni tunnel so it's more flat. Just a FYI.

well, it's really a continuation of what I did in the back... utilizing angle iron, bringing the cargo area farther forward, etc... all the cab supports will now be 2" x 4" tied into a slider setup...

the tunnel will be removable with a stealth fighter feel to it... finalization of that will have to wait till the drivetrain is back in so I can see where the twinstick wants to be, etc...

well, it's begun... just bought some 1 tons and 38" TSL radials today...

14bff, disced and lincoln locked. 60 with 35 outers, new warn premiums. 4:10's.. come with some rollers.

Also got some 38" x 15.5 x 16.5 TSL radials. about 90% tread on new 8 lug chromies...

$1600... happy with the deal...

If I use the chromies, I'll put em in the blast cabinet, then do em black... They're what I'll call a "minor" directional (just little areas at the outer edge), which I'm not a fan of, but I'll run for now in black till I do some beadlocks...

gotta borrow the work truck and go get em next saturday..

Any thoughts on how much hacking I will need with 7" of lift and 38 x 15.5? anyone running those tires? I didn't check the backspacing, but it looked average, maybe 3" or so.. I am running zero rates, so I can move the axles..

I run 38.5 x 16 tsl swampers with a 6" lift and just minimal fender cutting.

I don't have alot of flex with the rough country lift either. I didn't have to cut out the rear at all.

I run 38.5"X15" wide Boggers with 6" Rough Country all spring lift and a 3" body lift and I bent the rear of the front fender while wheeling. I haven't dropped the bump stops down yet. So that is probably why it did it.

thanks, cool....

It's a little more tire than I planned on.. originally I was thinking 37 x 12.5 SSR

I think the width concerns me more than anything...

I don't mind trimming some..

I wouldn't consider it if they where bias.. I can deal with some road noise, but flatspots and bad road manners I don't want...

do i see bushwackers in your future too paul, for inspection. my tires stick out quite a bit but i love that look.

eh, I hope not.. not into it, if I can avoid em..

more than likely I'll keep some smaller tires around for inspection when need be, and run the 38's anyway.. Hopefully I wont catch grief... I see plenty of heeps and newer stuff running around with tires sticking out...

The other thing is, they are 16.5's so I can get pretty healthy with backspacing.. Considering I'm not crazy about the rims, I can always change out to some with more backspacing to help the issue after they're on and I can see what's needed....
