87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Do you have any before pics? A before and after would make all the work you did very obvious to those of us that havent done this before.

nope, didn't think of it.. it was your typical grimey t-case.... there was definitely a fair amount of shaping and deburring going on... it's not uncommon for them to have sharp edges, etc....

you can see in this NWF shot a little bit the casting flash that goes all the way around from the original molds about 1/2 way back on the case..... thats gone on mine.... other areas where shaped and smoothed too...

right angle die grinder with 2 and 3" roloc setups on it with 36, then 50 grit grinding discs..... shaped the edges by hand with some 50 then 80 grit.. then hit the flats with 80 on a DA, then as much as i could hit with the machine overall...

assembly surfaces remained untouched till the very end where i used roloc surface conditioning discs to prep em before blowing out, washing in denatured, masking and zinc...... and I'll also chase all the the thread holes before assembly...

Are you using the bristle roloc discs or the flat ones? Have you used the bristle ones? Are they worth the price?

zinc runs about $10 or 12 a can or so usually for the average joe.. i do get a break on it thru work..... it goes pretty far..

nope, never used the bristle ones... generally i use the course surface conditioning discs for gasket surfaces... the scuffpad looking ones...

i've been using all the surface conditioning pads and grinding discs since they came out tho... my dad worked for 3M....

also got the rest of the back in zinc... just gotta do my seat belt tabs and some clean up and a couple odds and ends in the cab and it'll be time for some primer and color... couple weeks... thats when i can afford to get primer and paint...

ok, found this link i had while looking around that someone hooked me up with, and said i'd post it if i found it... i'm not gonna run it, but for the curious masses....

here's a pretty sick 27 pin connector... they have a couple different ones, big bucks.... $115 for this one... $185 for the one with a shrink boot...

yeah thats the one JD posted about earlier.... much more "economical"........ Waytek has another one too...

I'm going a different route.... i'm avoiding doing a bulkhead at all.... full length wire on mine...

speaking of, i need to do a wire order soon...

So I assume you are just going to punch a hole (or use existing one) to run the wires through with a grommet to protect the wires or do you have something else in mind? :-) I can definitly see the advantages of a single wire run.

In my case I am building a fully insulated and comfortable daily driver so being water tight is important for my particular build.

As always, keep up the great work, there is more than one of your ideas making it to my build.

I'm running 2 of the same liquidtight fittings that i run in my electronics box, thru the firewall...

boxpaint1.JPG

But the 2 going thru the firewall are much larger than the ones for the bat cables... here's 1, with a quarter for size comparison.. i'll be running that fancy conduit i posted into these... the conduit has 1" I.D.. the liquiatight fitting opening is about 1.5" diameter....

on that note.. just a little build note here on the electric... after figuring out some more stuff last night in the diagram.... I've decided to do the Megasquirt now... just too much "unfinished business" in the harness if i leave the old ECM for my liking... might as well, finalize that stuff now...

which, in turn means the PC is back on the table...I'm pretty certain those 2 items are gonna be purchased in the not-too-distant future...

alrighty... a little early week entertainment for my bro's... :wink1:

just some before and after comparisons on the billet bling..... :haha:

Do you plan to off road this thing Paul?
If so, take it to some shows first, to show off all that work.
looks great man.

just because i do show quality work doesn't mean it isn't being built for abuse... :wink1: somehow I don't think the car show guys would want anything to do with this rig! :haha:

just a little sidenote here for Seafarer...........

Megasquirts got smoke coming out my earholes!!! :doah::eek1::haha:

definitely alot of info to take in..... :eek1:

It is a lot to take in but it totally worth it. I have learned more about Fuel injection and engine tuning because of my Megasquirt install than anything else. Let me know if you do have any questions as I have been down a similar road with megasquirt for my lq9.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Rufus

thanks Rufus..... I'm sure I'll have some questions for you guys....

i should have my head wrapped around it pretty well after a couple weeks of reading... just trying to figure out what components i wanna run at this point....

thanks for the other links guys, good stuff.... that joke may not have come across right, i'm not looking for easier, plug and play setups... i want FULL control of the system and an understanding of what is involved, so when i do my 383, i'll know what changes need to be made..

not to mention, it appears i can do a FULLY decked out megasquirt system for around a grand... thats with all the mods right off the bat, 4 bar map, relay board, wideband and guage, etc...
