:haha:

*start bad Clint Eastwood voice* A man's GOT to know his limitations..... *end bad Clint Eastwood voice*

i think we get our industrial air gold series for 1200, we know the guy real well though, have bought 4 of them from him now. 80gal upright 5 horse 3 phase 220v. Same ones they use in the oil fields (optioned with continuous duty), basically it freewheels the compressor when not pumping. Our little pumas we carry in dads truck, as well as our spare, have the continuous duty as well (and the good valves as compared to the newer stuff). One heck of a compressor, we have had the one in the small shop like 25 years now and we abuse that thing, i mean anything you think is abuse we have topped, dad runs the valve wide open at times for hours and hours on end. the small shops motor has an engine brake for when in normal mode, and it puts the motor to an abrupt hault, and he got another motor to get rid of the brake since it is pretty hard on it, but his old motor hasnt failed him yet.

I dont like the lay down tanks myself. just opinion.

my blaster sucks a fair amount of air, and I've been known to use a hunk of brakeline as a blowgun to blow out the shop...

i have a decent spot under the stairs, next to the compressor spot for the second tank... i'm gonna build a small room for it when I get it...

I'll do a studded wall straight off the angled stairwall, with a door in it, then over to the block wall...

one thing I noticed on Northern was delivery time is 19 to 24 days, that'll suck waiting....

I picked up the 5 hp one from Northern tool about 4 weeks ago. At that point the wait was supposed to be 24-30 days. I received it in twelve, although your mileage may vary. I'd recommend picking up the startup kit too as it extends the warranty by a year.

Sucks on the compressor. but, you get to banish the Banshee for much quieter bliss. :D

You probably already know this bit don't forget that if you box in what looks like your forced air system / water heater (they look like gas fired) that you need to provide a combustion fresh air return for safety. Not sure if your wall will be going that far or not.

Cheers,

Rufus

thanks Rufus.... yeah, I actually had the same enclosure up prior, it goes between the compressor and furnace..... took that one down, the fire marshall wasn't happy with it being made of studded plywood... :doah:

this time I'll do a nice one, regular studded sheetrock construction with insulation to help keep the noise down.....

BIG weekend of work on the rig hopefully... first saturday off i've had in a month, plan on getting a BUNCH done....

Hey Paul, was looking at the air box outlets made of the composite panels, and was wondering how your going to keep them from vibrating against metal? Perhaps use a pinchweld gasket along the edges?
I can't even get a grasp on the whole PC setup you got going on.:eek1::crazy:
Kinda boggles my mind. But nevertheless, its cool stuff that nobody else is doing, and it even has sparked a few ideas about interior design for my rig.
Keep it crankin' Paul.

well since you asked....... :wink1: was gonna wait till sunday for these, but questions bring sneak peaks.... :haha:

here's a couple shots from earlier in the week, when beginning fitting up the diverter.... you can see the upper and lower backwalls, flanged, and fastened to the box with selftapping 3/8 screws...

they are seriously secure... I doubt it'll vibrate on the box, but a gasket-tape might a good idea during assembly, thanks!

here are some of the sidewall pieces I'm using, 1 1/2" channel that I lammed up...

rough-cut pre-glueup.....

ductmock005.jpg

I'm gonna have an angle lammed box/receptacle on the inside of the console side for the duct "feet" to fit into... kinda like how my shifter is mounted... think for a "grill" I'm just gonna do a series of holes drilled thru the composite, probably 3/8.....

and I'm really, really stoked on the PC.... hopefully I can get the LCD ordered within the next month.. the compressor is really gonna hurt my budget here.... need to suck it up and pound hrs at work... it's hard being beat up and dinosauric in my job, i was beat and bleeding at 5 today.... a 50, 55 hr week kicks my arse.... :(

but thats enough whining..... :haha:

As far as Air Compressors, I would pick up a Quincy, you'll never own another.

I just got mine and it is ridiculous.

I know what you said, but.....

5hp. 2 stage 15.1 scfm at 175.....nice and quiet.....QT54 basically

i know Quincy's are the chit when it comes to compressors, but I just assumed an I.R would be a fair amount more "economical" for a comparable sized unit.... thanks, I will go look at em, and check pricing, which I didn't... :o

should have the side vents finished up over the next couple days.....

Very cool Paul....looks great. Are those ducts going to be anchored to the upper dash metal, or are they stout enough bolted to the plenum?

no need to fasten it up top... actually it really doesn't even need the boxes for the bottom feet... i could have just butted them up to the side panels... but i wanted the receptacles to insure no air leaks and kinda tie it all together..

the diverter is mounted to the summit box by 8 screws now, I added 1 to each side.... let's put it this way, it's RIDICULOUSLY overbuilt... i seem to have a habit of doing that... :doah::wink1:

one of the biggest plus's was, I can actually install it as is, with the box attached.. I was pretty certain I was gonna have to put the diverter in place, then attach the box. but I lucked out, it all slides in under the console bar, barely.... :saweet:

maybe tomorrow I can get the vent holes drilled.. gonna put a slight chamfer to em too...

and thanks.... :D I worked my arse off on that thing the last 2 days.. I'm actually very proud of it, how the design all worked out.... it was a big jigsaw puzzle, lots of pieces, and glueing processes....should do the job nicely, especially when I do flapper doors down the road... I love it when a plan comes together! :haha:

I have the mount that comes with that, absolutely top of the line.

good to know, thanks.... I've seen that mount all over the website..... gonna take me a week to even figure out if that site has an LCD for me... TONS of choices, lots of reading to do... lots of good info over there....... couple in the the 6 to $800 range that are possible.... thats about the limit of what I can justify.....

new goodness......
