87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

thanks mang.... :D

hopefully it washes off decent once I start loading muck on it... :haha:

and yeah, the entire floor is custom, including the cab supports... I actually have 2 small projects left on it once i pull the drivetrain out for the last time.... wanted to get all the shifter cable stuff mocked in before i put it in primer/paint...

thankfully the twinstick cables are absolutely the perfect length.. i'm doing kind of a custom grommet app for those.. it's actually a square piece of rubber sandwiched with a steel trim ring... the e-brake and A.C shifter are standard round grommets..

confirmed today I wasted $50 on that e-brake cable, not even close.. i'll order a new one this week...

haha been there before, it took a while of parts chasing to get a correct and fully functional ebrake setup. I ended up going with a length of stainless 3/16" cable from Westmarine for my intermidiate cable.

yeah, the new one is actually only about $30.... I'm going from the 1/4 28 cable down to #10-32... the cable I bought is waaaaay overkill, thus the downsizing... plus, it's only 3', and after figuring out a routing today, i need 5'... the bend radius will be much better on the smaller cable too..

now i just need to figure out where i put the cable for my AC shifter! :doah::haha:

OUUUUCCHHHAAA!! That leg looks like it hurt like hell. :doah: Shins are the worst.

the leg is doing remarkably well, gonna be a long time before it's healed. but it's past the point where I'm worried about it... thanks Justin....

been as busy with the truck as i can be, considering I'm heading into Memorial Day weekend at work... beyond busy, and beyond tired... :doah::(

working hard on the x-member. got the 4 backing/mounting plates made up and fitted.. waiting on my bushings from poly performance, they'll be here tuesday... was gonna wait till next weekend to update, but here's a couple teaser pics, since I'm up at the a$$crack of dawn again....... :doah::crazy:

backing/mounting plates.. 1/4"

how they mount to the frame...

xmember006-1.jpg

that inner one will have a rectangle cut out of it with 2" x 3" x 1/4" tube mounted to em, angled down towards the 2 x 2 main dropout section of the x-member.. here's the 2 x 3 beef....

i've also been working on my front aluminum skid that I got back... seriously stoked on that... pics next weekend of that one.... gonna be pimp... :pimp:

Thats gonna be one seriously beefy crossmember:waytogo:

But won't it be really difficult to remove it, when you bolt it to the frame like that?
I'm thinking it would get wedged between the frame rails...

thats what the drop out section will be for... bushings at the ends.. bolted to the ends of those angled 2 x 3's... thats why they're 2 x 3, so a bushing can bolt in em..... gonna have "ears" at the ends of em...

effectively, the x-member will be 5 pieces... the 4 sections bolted to the frame, then the drop-out main section..

subscribed!!! I read the entire thread a few months ago and I'm truly amazed at the things your doing to your Blazer. I go back and read it every now and then to get motivated to work on mine.

Ah, I missed that part...:o

nah, my command of the english language really sucks at times... :wink1: I don't splain things very well.... thus why I was originally gonna wait to update, pics speak much better than I.... :haha:

sheesh, sometimes I don't realize how beefy I'm building schtuff....

bushings came in today... freakin things are huge..... didn't even realize when I ordered, was just looking at proper sizing for tube/mounting, that they come with zerks.. :doah: so my x-member will be greasable! :haha:

hunk o' 2 x 2 to show size, that will be welded to the bushing... 2 x3 in background that bushing will bolt into.... oh, and shot o' jack for ummmmmm, overall size comparison..... :wink1: yeah, thats it.... :haha:

as long as it's not working in torture chambe..... errrr.... I mean boats.... you should be fine...... :wink1:

I'm kicking there arse this week tho......... :grind::weld::hack::woot:

hung upside down and did the work with one hand on a job this morn for 3 hrs... fun! :haha:

haha yea i never planed on working on boats, iv been watching this build for awhile its looking pretty good man, keep up the good work

haha i just read what your suspension and running gear is and it is exactly the same as in my truck, the only diffrence is im going to be running a sm465 and a vortec 350 instead of a TBI 350. i do have one question, have you tired out your t-case break yet i was thinking of getting one i think it would be better on steeper hills and inclines if i needed to park my truck for awhile.

You're going to have a bad ass scar, should have stitched.:doah:

And you earn extra cool kid points for having a greasable crossmember.:D

you should put some zerk fittings in your joints... then you could earn some uber cool kid points for having greasable knees. :D i read a story a while back where in some east Asian country, some woman was having frequent silicon injections in her lips. She ended up getting sick a few years later. It turns out the plastic surgeon was filling her lips up with automotive grade silicon grease... :yikes:
