87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

my post was just a general whoring of the chicks, not directed at anyone...:D

I just came up with a braingasm on how to do the curved glass lip on the airpan, down to the dungeon to try it out... :woot:

done and drying.. :p:

I have my moments..... :pimp:

now I can go in and just tab the backside of the composite sections I removed.. I was able to maintain a perfect curve with the "relieved" sections of the angle composite..

that is the height the lip will be, but it will have a much more radius'd lower outer corner when done... also it will have an angled section at each end that ties into the backwall....

i need to put a bit of a crown to the top of the backwall, so the top piece (yet to be done) will follow the top of the firewall.... it's just gonna look, and seal, better...

can't wait to get it in satin black! eh, it'll be a few weeks yet...

nope.. everything's perfectly centered and concentrical..

still need to get a stainless threaded rod from work for that.. thanks for the reminder! :haha:

Dude, I've been pretty sporadic on CK5 as of late... I'm trying to skim and get the "Cliff Notes" update on the build...looking sweet.

Just wanted to see if you'd settled into a computer plan for the K5 yet.

I've been shopping lately, and I'm 100% sold on the idea of forgoing a conventional PC operating system and using a proper "mobile" OS, namely Android. I found a 7" capacitive touch screen that is available in a double-din mounting bracket. I plan to couple that with a tiny motherboard running an ARM processor (the architecture used by smart phones, these days).

That'd enable me to run a proper mobile setup in a vehicle. Last thing you want to do is try navigating on a conventional PC desktop. Oh, and I recently got a company-issued laptop with a touch screen (resistive, not the newer capacitive screen). It SUCKS to try using the touch screen compared to my (modern) smart phone. Capacitive screens are the only way to go.

Being Android-based, I'd have access to real Nav software. GPS is easily integrated. For example, I have a small Android "internet tablet", which is realistically the size of a small mp3 player. I upgraded it with a full-blown version of Android in lieu of the stock version. I was able to add the entire Android market (for apps) and the stock Andriod Nav software. I tethered it (wirelessly) to my phone to get the GPS signal into it. I successfully used it for Nav with no issues.

I've already shopped for, and found Bluetooth GPS receivers to interface with my planned PC.

And, obviously, media playing (both music and video) are a snap with this setup. On my tiny 3.2" "tablet" I've managed to watch Netflix movies and stream internet radio without issue. I simply had it wirelessly tethered to my phone and had full internet access on it.

.....

Like I said, I've been skimming your thread, trying to catch up. If you've already got other plans and think they'll work for you, then cool. But otherwise, I would seriously suggest you look into this option. If you're interested, I can point you toward some of the hardware I was looking at.

always good to hear from ya Jon!

I'm such a noob when it comes to all the mobile stuff out these days... heck, I use a simple pay by the minute cell... :doah:

my big concern is obviously being able to run my tuning software, can that kinda program be run with Android?

nav I definitely want to do, but it IS secondary to the tuning... thus why I first started thinking PC, as opposed to laptop...

I'm still planning the mini-itx format at this point in the center console with as nice a LCD as I can afford... but obviously I'm still aways off at this point from the PC, probably a yr....

**** oh, I should clarify this a bit
everything's perfectly centered and concentrical..
the bowl/filter are concentrical to the tbi, not the stud... I still need to run an offset on the stud as the stock one is...

According to one of the Tunerstudio Devs, they are looking into adapting it to Android, but they aren't there yet.

funny thing is, they predate them by a few yrs.. Nirvana actually "borrowed" a few hooks from earlier L7 releases... kinda like the 70's when the one Bond soundtrack's main hook was actually from an Alice Cooper song a few yrs earlier..

they where the beginning of that whole riot girl thing, Veruca Salt, Bikini Kill, etc, and later, Hole, all began with L7...

if ya go back to that 3rd vid, Just like me live, the one verse goes

"Well vixen are love gods
Just like me
Pretty pretty sex things
Just like me
Dressed up and to pay to play
I couldn't live that way
Hair spray and bustier
Can't fool me

Vixen, vixen, vixen"

that's what they where competing against when they came out, hairband era sh*t....

I actually listen to mostly their mellower stuff these days...

sh*t's got soul...... but a dumb video! ;)

but every now and then ya gotta rock out to their signiture tune...

it so reminds me of early Sab evil hooks... :saweet:

maybe you got more than 24hrs to the day there?:D

I wish... well, maybe not actually, they'd never let me out of the marina.... :haha:

the salad bowl itself wasn't bad, maybe 3, 4 hrs... the whole airpan, i'll probably have 50, 60... and thats not including the hood work.. which will probably be another 40...

and thanks! :D

Ryoken - just got done making a big dust cloud in the dungeon... shower here I come! :pimp:

oh, and I correct myself, the salad bowl was actually about 10 when ya factor in the mounting and upper guide ring...

It's nice to see how much time it really takes to do the work. Following the thread it seems like you get so much done in almost no time at all. I know you work non-stop on your stuff, and you know what your doing, but this puts it into a better perspective for me. Quality work as always.

yeah, some things can go quick, or you can make them take a long time... it's always an ongoing battle of speed, efficiency, quality, stepsaving, etc..

and I'm set up a fair bit better than most... I remember back when i was young building stuff out of cr*p, in a rock driveway with visegrips, a drill and a hammer... here's one of my most helpful tools in the shop..

sander001.jpg

i don't even use the disc setup, but i use 24 grits on the belt portion for TONS of stuff... steel, glass, etc..... plus, it's not an overly noisy tool... one of the best $50 i ever spent!

for example sometimes, ya make do... that outer wall, I had the 1/8" thick, 1" angle composite.. easy peezy.. the inner? ran out of the same stuff, so i had to mill down some 3/16th's, which i have TONS of... that probably took me 2 hrs... and a big dust cloud.. :doah: :haha:

but I'm trying to avoid driving across the state to lovely Trenton for more composite...

hopefully I get a bunch done this weekend.. continue with airpan steps, setting up the 60 in the kitchen to get going on putting that together... I'd actually like to see about getting some blasting done on Avery's tailgate if the weathers good..

cup of joe and I'm off to the dungeon...

Paul, looking for some answers, on your previous setup, you had the filter in your trans line before the auxilliary cooler, and now its after the radiator cooler, but before the auxilliary cooler?
I know you said you had trans trouble because you suspected not using the radiator to "warm" the fluid.
So....what led you to the current line up of rad cooler/ filter/ aux cooler/ return.
