should work well.. i'll drill holes on those flanges around the clip areas

and plug weld em to the back of the patch..

I'm still up in the air about the very back lip by the windshield rubber, I may leave the rounded factory lip, but I'll more than likely cut it off once the clips areas and patches are in, and go with a section of round rod the length of the dash...

give it a subtle, framed smoothness and continuity..

plus, that'll help keep all them hooker $20's from slipping down behind the dash! :pimp:

there are the clips that I've been talking about that slip into slots in the dash sub-structure, up by the windshield..

you push the dash into those slots.. than a series of screws on the front lower lip/bezel retain it back/down.. mine is staying with that basic mounting config... I felt the clip fastening at the windshield was crucial to keep in some way for ease of mounting, maintenance, etc...

once this patch is in, I'll cut the hole for the defog.. than I can do the glass work on the heater... fit that up... than the ds patch.. than the plexi area metal framing, yada...

If I had known that I would have removed my dash to clean out in there and paint...
I assumed it was welded in or part of the firewall...hmmm

well, there's the dashpad, than the dash under structure that it covers up and attaches to.. that is bolted on the sides, and welded under the windshield..

ahhh...so it is welded....I won't be removing mine....

I'll watch you go through that this time...:haha:

Making quick progress. :thumb: I almost scored another dash today (gonna need 2-3 extras for what I have in mind), but it was a 73-80. :frown1:

on the next episode,

the scribblings of a madman? or Da Vinci-like genius? :dunno: :poo:

I'll report back with my findings...

when it's done, that section to the right where the last hole is, will be gone...

tomorrow I start tacking and forming it in.. trimming as I need to... same plugweld treatment on these clip areas as the other side...

I've also decided i'm going to eliminate the whole back factory lip, and do roundbar only back there...

trickiest part is gonna be 3Ding the VIN window..

I'd like to have the fab/metal work done, including LED parts mocked in/frame/etc, and have the dash in primer in a couple weeks....

gonna order round rod and the LED/plexi stuff at the end of the week...

getting the dash done is huge... once it's done, I can put a windshield in and I can actually start wiring the rig and installing components... :woot:

not that I have any components! :doah: :haha:

With this being said and taking into consideration the time span of the build,
Have you changed your mind on any of the components that will be used. Just thinking in terms of advancements in technology of the last couple of years. :dunno:

Maybe I should just shut my mouth though, as many of us would like to see this rig under its own power and on the road instead of cut back apart cause of a minor change in ideas. :D

good question...

after pilfering parts for Mutt, the list has grown substantially unfortunately...

nothing is changing cuz of tech per se..... the longer I go, I'm sure some components will be that way.. the LCD screen I'm sure.. when I actually get to buying that, I'll be looking at the latest and greatest... same with megasquirt and I'm sure a couple other things too...

but my biggest issue is that I was so adamant about running a serious beef 700r4... when now with Mutt as a potential towrig, and this possibly being MUCH more of a trailer queen, I seriously regret not just doing a doubler of some sort right off the bat... and maybe a cheaper trans option like a 400... but I'm not gonna change that up now...

but as I apologized earlier to Eric, I'm not gonna link the front, just for the very fact of cutting down on finishing time... if in 5 yrs I'm not dead and am finding myself limited in the rigs offroad performance, I'll go for a phase 9 of the build, go doubler, front links, etc...

for now, in my own twisted way, I'm trying to head to "on road" staus ASAP.. far from "done", but drivable.. but that purchase list is pretty long/daunting at this point.. I've actually debated recently not doing the tubebed on Mutt for a while, and pounding that 5 grand in materials into the K5... that'd put a serious dent in my K5 parts list.. :eek1:

That makes a lot of sense to me. As much as we're all itching to see what the tube bed was going to look like, Mutt is drivable as is and imo the wood bed looks pretty good. Until the k5 is drivable you don't have anything to tow anyway so Mutt can hang tight while you make some serious k5 progress. :thumb:

yeah, it's one of those, my heart (the cool pic in my head of the tubebed) is telling me to buld it, and the common sense side of me says, just drive Mutt, and push hard to get the K5 much closer to drivable first....

the flip side to it is, I drive Mutt every day, so it would be fun and enjoyed to drive it with the badarse tubebed... and ya never know till built, but I really think what I have in mind will be pretty sick in both functionality and form.. as the mallard makes me smile daily, I think the tubebed would have me in a sh*t eatin grin most of the day... :haha:

I say the tubebed is 5 g's.. but it'll have bigger financial repercussions than that, in the rest of my life... basically it'll eat up the rest of the yrs funds for that kinda stuff.. and a solid 6 months of labor..

it's just something I've been pondering lately.. I'll have to decide in the next 4 to 6 weeks tho if I'm gonna get the tube order in and get going with a reasonable expectation of kinda sorta finishing with it by the end of the summer..

off to weld/fab a dash I go................ :weld::grind:
