87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

man of the hr! :waytogo: was hoping you might read that by chance...

yeah, I definitely think I'll have you do something, it can wait a week or 2.. I can get the dash in primer, yada, in the meantime..

want a zombie squad for Mutt anyway... I'll shoot you a pm over the weekend... the critical thing is the letter's being 2" tall...

I still need to figure out a font, but it''ll be the same phrase I had you do last time BUILT, NOT BOUGHT! and probably have ya run off a few since I'll be trying various etching techniques and such..

Let me know. :D

hey Scott, quick question.. I'm also working on another project too, how difficult would it be to do the exact same thing as above, but mirrored? so it's written backwards?

last of the dash metalwork.. wanted to carry the round rod around the cage cutouts...

Nice touch:waytogo:. I like the whole one off concept you got going on with your rig. I'm sure you can't wait for the finish line, there are plenty of us waiting there also:thumb:

thanks... :D the whole rig has become that... it gets to a tipping point customize-wise, where it just becomes 98%... doing a couple projects on a rig is one thing... this, on the other hand... :doah: :haha:

one more off the list... :thumb: gonna try to get this primed and painted over the next week..

I've got a month to work on this rig... than I don't know when I'll get back to it with taking on the tubebed from he!!.... and that hurts on both the labor/time sucking, and financially...

other than the back bumper, the fab work is basically done on this... what the K5 needs most.. money thrown at it.. lot's o' part's.... after I pilfered her like a $2 hooker.. :doah:

heck, I just pulled the winch out of it for mockup in Mutt's tubebed.. hopefully I'll be back hardcore on this rig all thru next fall/winter... that's the plan anyway... :haha:

duh, forgot, I still gotta make the defog hole tomorrow....

I feel your pain, brother. :doah:

Looks killer tho. Nice to see this thread pop back up. Even if it's for just a month or so, that's another month of stuff crossed off the never ending list. :waytogo::waytogo:

yeah, the 2 points in this build that I remember saying to myself that I had issues where the full floor project and the damn heater...

it's the last thing in the world I ever wanted to build was a custom heater... :haha:

I'm just glad to be working again... haven't done sh*t the last yr...

now all this tubework coming up makes me think about tools.. I'm hurting.. I need a new chopsaw.

*** phone convo***

yeah, you've heard all that now.... :doah: :haha:

It's all the little details that make it so cool!

I'm dreading this heater hole.. tis gonna suck... :doah: :haha:

the dash doesn't just drop in.. the clips slide it forward and down...

so, it needs to be in place when locating the opening..

the heater can't be installed unless the top lip is low enough..

trim, try fit.. rinse.. repeat.. scream.. beer repeat.. rep.eat

think I have an excellent plastic vent for the top tho.... :pimp:

That looks good around the cage. Really finishes it off. Attention to detail is one of the things you have always done well On this rig. It's hard to ballence work and two projects at once. At least one is drivable and usable. Can't wait to see what get done in the next month. Always cool to see updates on this Paul.

.... I need a new chop saw.

You can have mine. Seriously. :deal:

It's a DeWalt. I had it on craigslist last month, but too many flakes wasted my time. If you can figure out a practical way to get it to Joysey it's all yours.

Gregs too good to me... :haha:

shipping would probably make that not effective... how much did you list it for?

just me crying... I used to build sh*t with a hacksaw in dirt driveways, everything's a step up these days! :pimp:

just me hemming and hawing on getting a bandsaw... I could possibly imagine putting out 6 to 700 for that... but I don't want to add 2, 300 to that for a saw..

the chopsaw is a bit more versatile I think... I do a TON of fishmouth work with the chop.. heck, I did all the tube in the K5 with basically a chopsaw , bender and die grinder....

actually I guess I should add those fancy cold chopsaws that run like 5 to 600 to the possible mix too.... heard more than a few people in here rave about em...

but a cheap $175 abrasive dewalt from depot is more than likely what i'll end up with... :doah: :haha:

it's just with known big expenditures in the near future, tube, alum, boxes, big meats and gear for Mutt, etc, I'd like to keep tool purchases to a minimum.. unfortunately...

I suppose they call this "proof of concept" work...

and a blurry dark one...

It will also do the same in green...

I may at some point work on some where I can use both the colors... like green lettering with orange shadowing or something...

the only issue I have to correct is me being a dyslexic brainfart.. all this reverse letter, stencil stuff get's me backwards sometimes.. thank god Scott is patient with my psycho needs.. :haha:

when I had him make that up in sandblast mask, I had it forward, so I needed to blast the top.. it works, but it's equally as bright when you etch the underside, and leave the smooth side out... :doah:

the main difference being when it's on the outside like currently, when the lights are off, it's still very drastic.. whereas when it's on the underside, you can barely see it when off...

no big, the plexi is $4, and I've already got something of another Scott order already to go so...... :haha:

but now, I see it works... just gotta weld some studs in for the holddown...

anybody wanna buy advertising space? :haha:

well, just figured out how to do dual colors... you just do a layer of plexi for each color and stack em.. which with the frame setup I made, makes this super easy... ya have to have 2 layers automatically, cuz ya need a backer one behind the first one anyway with the frame...

so now, I'm just gonna buy a stack of these plexi pieces so I have many blanks to play around with.. cheap enough... found my new late night hobby, coming up and drawing new engraving possibilities... need that dremel/router setup now.. sit at my coffee table watching military channel and making plastic shavings...

already trying to work up some other panels to put in there for various occasions...... some just graphics only... I'm working on a couple 2 color ones in paint now.. a shadowed, wide bowtie emblem, Zombie Squad, a flame one, Ryoken's Rig, etc...

this still seems to be the best 2 color job I can find...

hopefully you guys'll dig the center console clear zombie squad one a bit better when I get to that in 2019... :haha:

it's, so bright, I may actually use this tech on Mutt's taillights in red coming up..

here's a 2 color I might try on the dash.. tho the bowtie angles need to be redone a little less... maybe just a bit thicker on the green.. the green color wont be that light in the led too...
