GWeakland620 submitted a new Build:

'87 S10 on K5 frame. 44's/tons/LSswap.

This was my high school truck that my dad and I built and I drove my senior year. The truck has seen its fair share of abuse. After high school I stripped it of its good parts for my Jimmy build, and it sat for a bit. My dad decided he was going to resurrect it and join my brother and I on the trail. 4 years ago we decided we were going to dive in and start what we thought was a decent winter build.

The goal was to get it running and driving then start working out bugs and finishing the build.

Well, we worked a long weekend over thanksgiving and lost all momentum.....

Then my dad and brother started their own lawn and landscape business and this project got put way back on the priority list.

So now that my dad is sick of riding shotgun on the trails, he has decided to let my buddy and I dive in. My dad is paying my buddy to do a lot of the work, but there is too much sentimental value in this truck for me not to help with it.

Whaaaaat??? You've been holding out on us. Is this an additional or replacement project? The pic with the 44's looks good!

More pics and info! What's the drivetrain gonna be? suspension? exo cage? Keeping bed or truggy?

Is the cab hard mounted to the frame, or does it have rubber/poly mounts? I only ask cause the tubing is hugging the body real tight, and if the cab is not hard mounted, I have heard of guys have annoyances with the cab trying to flex just a tad from the rubber/poly mounts, and then rubbing on the tubing if too close and have major "squeak" noises from it. Not to say it would really do anything bad, just more of an annoyance. If the cab is hard mounted, then it shouldn't really be a problem.

Either way, I like how tight the tubes are in those pics, was more just wondering.

Thing is looking good!

Also, if it were me, I would make a B-pillar that follows the lines of the tube just behind the door and just above the top of the cab, and then connect it all together in small stages throughout, in turn kind-of making a double b-pillar design. Then you could do cross bracing on the back b-pillar and have it be really strong throughout. Also would give you a good start to the back half tubing/bed cage to stiffen up the frame in the back too.

Just my $0.02 really. Like I said, either way it's all looking real good

Cab is/will be more hard mounted by the time it's all done. Not using any of the body mounts, which is why it's so close to the cab.

And yes, still kicking ideas around about the b-pillar design.

Thanks for the input!

Yeah, figured you guys were gonna hard mount the cab, was just curious. For a rock crawler, I actually like to hard mount the cab...just firms things up that much more.
