Yes, the detroit has to have some slop for the cam to change directions for forward/reverse, and engine braking.

OK, thanks. What if I slam the skinny pedal, and the driveline spins and the pinion gear slams the ring gear? Couldnt it break something? I have never seen this much pinion slop before. Not that I have seen any really.

Thanks, I am ignorant on this topic!!

That's not the ring/pinion backlash, thats probably only 4 - 9 thousands of an inch. if you are very careful you can probably feel that, but you may not be able to see it.

What you are seeing there is the lash in the detroit, which connects the carrier to the axleshafts.

Sweet, I dont have time to get the rear worked on. I will be installing the 60 as soon as the shop says "it's ready" today. On Sat. There is a little event here in town. I will be driving over a few cars. I need to get this done ASAP. I don't want to miss this.

Thanks again bud!!!

Tires suck anyway!! If i slash one or two, It will give me a good excuse to tell the wifey I need new 39.5 to 42 Pitbull Rockers!:D

I will have someone use my video camera for sure!!

nice! cant wait to see the video from this one. hopefully you dont get any new carnage to the truck. lol

Very small update. Got the pinion guard on. New combo joint installed. Napa#477. The 60 is going in today!!!!!

The shop that is doing the gears for me, and was my spotter on the last wheelin trip, He took 7th at the last KOH. He said if he doesnt finish the gears today, he will let me drive his KOH buggy tomorrow. SWEET. He said he would let me drive no matter what though. I declined. I dont like driving other people's rigs, even though i would LOVE to.

I got my Dana 60 installed. Works great. I finished the install at 11:00am on Sat. I took a shower and then drove 6 miles to a little event.

I played on this thing for a while before getting high centered. It took 3 jeeps with their winches and a tractor to get it off. Some damage, bent frame, bent crossmember, bent transfercase skidplate. Bent rockers, creased front fender, tire slashed, but not flat.

Bent bottom frame rail. Bent the front spring, The transfercase skidplate is riding on the transfercase. The fender got creased from the tractor lifting the frontend up. The leaf spring on the right side doesnt look like the otherside. The drivers door is out of alignment now. I forget what else.

No video, but in the pics, you can see me driving in the back ground. Since the axle had been in for 2hrs., I had no time to fix the steering arm. It would not turn right at all. Everybody wanted me to get in on the jeep stackin competition that was going on. I was trying to get over to a jeep to climb on, but it wouldnt turn so well. And the minivan was in my way, So I just punch it. They said the rear bumper was on the ground. The frontend was pointing to the sky, Its was all downhill from there.

You can see in the pics where the car was before I got stuck. When I hit it It moved like 15ft. By the time i was stuck, I had moved it quite a bit.

I have my OBA almost done. Just have to get it filled and mount it in the rig. Thinking about putting it in the spare tire well. Its a #20lb tank, pretty big, but perfect for what I will use it for. ThePowertank unit this size was over $600.00. I have around $140.00.
