'87 Suburban Build "munepit" I'm Back! Missed all you guys!

Also need to find a way to plug the two steering box input and output holes so I can degrease and paint it.

I need to do the same thing, was wondering if i can get some plastic screw in plugs like came in my new master cylinder from the auto parts store. If not maybe there is something like it at the hardware store.

Hey Teck, I used a extra plug that goes into the water pump. Its a thumb size plug with a square head. I don't know what its to plug on the water pump, someone here will know. Then got another one at Napa. Worked good, little leaking as I bearly tighten it so I didn't mess up the threads. Good enough for me to put it in the garage sink and degrease it and paint it. Hope this helps.

I am installing some rock lights. I think I'm going to need 3 per side. The Burb is long. I installed the crossover arm. Painted the steering box and ORD tierod.

Can I hook up 6 55 watt lights to a 30 amp relay? Or should I use a 40 amp relay?

The lights are from Pep Boys. $24.00 per pair. I got 2 pairs, might need one more. The pic is from one light I test fittted. Its directly behind the front fender facing to the back tire.

The pics were takin in complete darkness. Looks better in person. Here is the crossover arm. Lots of work to do. Its hard with a newborn baby. I can get like 20-30min. at a time before the wife wants me to change a diaper or burp the baby.

Probably just an NPT pipe plug, but if it works thats good.

Ok so you need to put a stop to the diaper thing deal, offer to do throwup its a fair switch

Well, The crossover is done! I haven't driven it yet, but it turns sharply both ways! It is a thing of beauty!! I got all the tires grooved. And while I was at the pick and pull getting my 2nd 2wd steering box, I got this grille. It was $10.00. I dont know what it came off of, It not for the burb though. It doesn't have a spot for the turn signals. So I painted it black and put it on.

That grill looks to be a 81-82 grill and the turn signals where in the bumper.

Thanks, I dont know if Im going to keep it on. If i do, i will fab up a little light on each side for the turn signal. I have to have one, I hate when people dont use their turn signals, Im going to be THAT person. I am liking the grille black though!

So I took the burb around the block for the first time since installing the crossover. Something is not right. It turns sharp both ways which is sweet. The steering wheel is tight when turning while stoped, tighter that before. Seems a little slower also. When moving the steering wheel vibrates like when one of the lugs of the TSL hit the ground. I haven't adjusted the psi in the tires, maybe I need to add some air. I never got abouve 40mph, but I am starting to feel the DW. I'm going to add and washer on the drivers side and tighten the springless arm in the pass side. Need to fix this by sat night!

I dont know. I didnt check. Its a Balistic fab springless arm and an ORD Pitman arm. I think thats what eveyone uses. Maybe I need to bleed the box? When it was still on jackstands I turned the wheels lock to lock like 15 times and kept filling the pump with fluid. Maybe it is the used tires.

If the pump needs bleeding it will "send out an audible signal"...

Also, I think you should try putting the other tires on temporarily. That way you can determine if it has to do with something you just did, or if the new tires just brought out a problem that was already there and you haven't addressed yet.

How tight did you tighten the kingpin preload stud?

If they are different lengths it will steer different, box will move slower of faster then the wheels and or wheels faster or slower then the box.

Thats the thing,I called Balistic and they told me "to get it tight". I got it on there pretty tight, no torque wrench, or specs on how tight, but pretty tight.I could go a little tighter, but I dont want to crack the bushing. They never gave me a number or had a number in mind,

You shouldn't crack the bushing, because it's already split on one side so it can conform between the kingpin and the kunckle. However, it sounds like you should have it tight enough, if there is some decent friction to turn the knuckle (not counting the other knuckle or the tie rod/drag link, etc.

Ya their is friction. Its smooth but tight. The steering wheel pulsates, like it catches and releases over and over. Weird.
