'87 Suburban Build "munepit" I'm Back! Missed all you guys!

I had a problem like that on a 97' yukon. I wasted money on all new shocks and looking for other problems. I finally put a new set of tires on and problem solved. The tires didn't look bad but it sure made a difference. Not saying that's your problem but I'D take it into consideration it though. Nice looking rig:waytogo:

Question: since I'm going hydro assist, is it doable to do hydro assist and the old push/pull steering? Then I could run a swaybar and a quick disconnect. Then I would have the best of both worlds, street and trail.
hhmmm, interesting... I like the thought... Has it been done b4?

push pull will severely limit articulation and will work against not in conjunction with hydro. You should try shocks with stiffer valving or possible try running a rear sway bar...

he's only looking for easier turning ability, don't make it so complicated.
not everyone needs crossover, he has no death wobble, and it must drive pretty nice on the road for him to only be caring about assisted steering at this point.

Rock on dude. Do you think you'll have it done for Gorman?

The way he wheels and jumps this thing he needs to keep crossover, The push/pull causes bump steer and poor handling on the trail or jump as the case may be, if he is building the rig to shine on and off road he should keep crossover and explore other option to lose the sway.

He was only talking about going back to push pull to make room for a front sway bar...and cross over does not cure death wobble...

sorry
must have missed where he had crossover already:doah:
figured if he's happy with the was it is, put the ram on it and don't worry about crossover. You give up the sway bar doing so, unless you go exotic, but didn't know he already had made that move. Seems everyone HAS to run it, but not all need it. And yes :haha: everything for my crossover is holding the garage floor down :)

Thanks guys for all the ideas and replies. It was swaying pretty bad on the road when I would hit a bump with one tire. So, I'm sitting here taking shots of Capt. and having a few beers thinking. Could it be the shock mount? Well, I go grab the shock and try and move it. It starts hissing air out the top of the main body. Nice, its a blown shock. Easy fix! Love it. I must have blown it during the tuff truck. Easy fix. Can't wait for Gorman! Thanks!

Holy crap, just for ****s and giggles, I went to the other side and grabed and shock the shock. Its pissing air also. They are both blown. Sweet. I like figuring out a problem without picking up a tool! Nice, now what shocks should I get? Maybe Bilstein 5100s?

Well, I got one Bilstein installed. The passenger side inner fender needs some trimming. The problem Im having is there is only 5" of down travel. I think I need more than that, But I will find out shortly. Here is how it looks.

Sorry for the crappy cell pics.

I had a problem getting the new shock in the lower mount, and I needed some lube. Funny, My wife said to me " Why are you taking the astroglide outside" with a very confused look on here face. I said " I need to fit something in a tigh hole". Next time Im going with soap, I couldnt hardly hold onto the shock. It was slicker than fish grease.

I went and played a little bit on Sun. I need to do some waterproofing. As soon as I hit the hole, The motor died. I do know I hit it to fast though. Here is a short video.

After I got home, I noticed I had tranny fluid dripping everywhere. Great, just what I needed. Sorry for the crappy pics, But, From the oil pan to the rear bumper, Fluid is everywhere. I did 65mph on the freeway home for 20 miles.

I wouldn't be running those brand new shocks with zero bumpstops, you might destroy them just like your old shocks. The shock mounts look nice.

Can you tell where the trans is leaking? Is it dented, warped?

Cant tell yet. Need to pressure wash it under there. Well everywhere! I think I need different shocks up front. There is only 5" of down travel I think, somewhere around there. I need more than that. I will just use these in the back. I want some kind of shock with the rubber bump stop on the shock shaft, I think! Not sure yet. The Bilsteins are SOOOO much better than any other shock I have run. I dont think I will use a different shock, So, i will have to make bumpstops!!! Thanks!!

Just for some giggles, I will post a vid I made of my friend in his Jeep ZJ. There was a bunch of people meeting at this one spot. Trevor couldn't wait, so he was just messin around when he got stuck. He had his wife and 2 kids in there, kids in car seats. When he got stuck, I put the kids in my Suburban for a hr. while he got extracted. It was cold, and the video is shaking a lil bit. There was a lot of water in the Jeep.

You need a front bumper to use as a step

That's funny. I had to walk across the hood and jump to the bank. I'm getting Kerts bumper center, but it won't have a step. At least I had the frame horns sticking out for my buddy to use.

I should have just slowed way down!

mud roll overs are scary. It'd be pretty easy to drown in one of those. With the vehicle crushing up and no visibility and poor orientation itd be unlikely anyone would get out without the quick intervention of other wheelers pulling the truck back over before he ran out of air.
