'87 Suburban Build "munepit" I'm Back! Missed all you guys!

torch takes me about five minutes to do all four

You should hear the squeal when I use the press.:D
And in under 5 minutes I will have all of them pressed out and the new ones pressed on.
And I can hold them right away without burning my hand.:thumb:

You don't own a press yet!?
You!?

Srsly..... :eek1:

*he drives over car's, but doesn't own a press...* :thumb: ->:pimp:

I need one, But I need other tools first. We got the bushings out today at Bradshawtech's shop. You should see the stuff he builds!!! He builds huge farm implements from scratch. Like this, But bigger.

I have most of the springs cleaned up. There was some surface rust. Wire wheeled them and got a coat of paint on most of them. Just a couple more to clean up and paint. These are some flexy springs, im going to add 2 to each pack and do the zero rate.

You guys who are pressing them out, are you using a hand press like the ones used for u joints and ball joints?

No, it takes more than that. We used a huge press, like 50 ton! A press like they sell at harbor freight is the one most people use I suppose, but Tom has a giant press. These bushings were stock from 1976, no way they were comming out by a hand press. Plus there was a metal sleeve that had to come out also.

Torch is funner, heat the center sleeve till it melts sometimes it pops straight up when the rubber gets hot, push the melted rubber out the bottom, cut the outer sleeve out and walla all done with flame and smoke :woot:

When we did it today all 4 came out in one piece( outer sleeve, bushing and inner sleeve) took about 5 minutes total.

Got one pack done for now. Needs some touch up paint. Added 2 springs from my 8" lift springs.:eek1: to the bottom. Don't know what its going to look like though. When I jump on it, it flexed about an inch or so. What do you think about that? Out of all the springs I have on hand, those are the only 2 in each pack that are not bent. I guess there is only one way to find out.

Dont worry too much about it. I got $10 bucks that says youll be adding and subtracting springs until you get to a point where you are really happy with it. I would say they should be pretty close to right on with the setup you have now, and if anything they will be a touch to tall and stiff.

Sweet. Thanks. I got one side on and with the floor jack filly extended, the springs are almost flat. Jack wouldn't go any higher. Good shackle angle also.

Jeff put bumpstops of some sort on your list, you can ruin those springs so fast if you let them go negative arch.

Looks cool man!

The problem I think will be the location. I have Kerts 60 shock mounts on there and don't know how I can do it yet. I will need them though.

Thanks fellas!!!

Yes, I can. I just don't know where it will hit on the axle. Do they hit on the king pin arms or on the tube. I have those shock mounts the are welded to the inner C and the axle tube. Might need to switch things up.
