88 C4 back on the road.

They just had a coup a few months ago. Tell him to keep his head on a swivel.
 
He was not sure he was going. This administration will not call it a coup, so he had to go. He said the city is worse than Mexico. Niger is the least developed country in the world. The coup leaders are now flying a Russian flag. But they want our money.

I was just thinking about him and several friends and family members, a couple days ago with all the new developments. None of the others I know have gone anywhere, however they have been told to stay in contact.

First thing he did was approved and activated Starlink. The contact to home for the deployed there, had been spotty at best. Most called home once a month. He was the first one to call out as a test. Now they can call when they have time and anytime. He is instantly famous on the base.

He had to go into town to meet the locals who supply some stuff to the base. He has been to Mexico with me in the past. "Dad. I have never seen poverty like this. There are people dying in the streets. Starving to death. People shitting and pissing in the road. Everyone is filthy. Everyone looks hollow. This is going to be a tough 6 months."

Keep him in your prayers. He is too nice of a guy to have to live with that crap. He will want to fix it, but can't, obviously. It will really eat at him.

I hope his presence does some good for locals. They didn't ask for there selfish greedy leaders. Or inability to do anything about it.
 
That’s a little more than the 10 cracks per inch rule of thumb. Smart move.

At first I thought it was one of those segmented Goodyear gator back belts they used to sell.
 
Low beam passenger side headlight quit working. Ordered a new bulb with the other parts. Oops. Someone converted these to the later type bulbs.
Plugged the new one in, no low beam still.

No power to the light. Check the plug. It is a 12" long pigtail. Power to the pigtail.

Then I got tired and went inside.

That sounds like Africa and the Middle East. Tell him to enjoy the foot bread!!
 
I had one of those pigtails for the headlights in the crew cab that was bad out of the box. Couldn't find anything visibly wrong, but one of the wires just wouldn't carry current. Since it was new I returned it and bought a different brand.
 
Spent some time on his car.

The pigtail is factory so the hood can be removed without disassembling the headlights. Plug at the main harness was not making contact. Put it back together and it still didn't work. Took the headlight bezel apart again to plug the the pigtail into the headlight. Dropped a screw into the lower bumper airdam area. It seams to be made of unobtainable. Because I can not find it.

Fired the car up. Everything works, the gauge now shows 13.8 volts and the "service engine soon" light is off. :woot: It has been on since he bought it. Now we know why.
 
Since I had to be awake at 2am for my EEG test prep, I figured I would put some time in on his car.

Over the last week I cut the glass packs out. they were rusted through. The rest of the exhaust had no issues. I put straight pipes in place of the glass packs, added a cross over, straightened the system up and welded all of the joints. They had the cheap band clamps with the pipes butted to each other. Leaks at every joint. Whoever put this system in, obviously, did not own a welder. Maybe that is a good thing. The whole system drops out as one piece, so welding was easy. Made a couple of tacking clamps out of the junk clamps.PXL_20231115_094038339.jpg

A discerning eye will see that I already shorted it :doah:while checking for tight when I was done.

Adjusted the shift linkage. It was a nightmare getting it out of reverse. So I sat and read how to adjust it. Drivers' seat and the consul had to come out. Made the alignment tool. When the clutch was changed, this adjustment was not done when the transmission went back in. It should not have been needed, but I could see that the adjuster nuts had wrenches on them not to long ago. So the tech took too much apart. All better now.

Pulled the parking brake mechanism out. Cleaned and lubed, so now it works.

I do not think there is anything left to fix. If a food trailer was not in the way, I would take to find breakfast. But it is cold out and I do not want to run the forklift around outside.
