'89 Blazer LS swapped DD/Adventure Rig

I was thoroughly surprised. Evidently between the gear and tire size around 80 mph is the sweet spot for the 5.3. It sure is nice being able to put er in 5th gear and not have to down shift at all like the 4L60E used to do.

Took a little ride today with some friends.

Explored Eglin AFB east of where I live. Only my blazer, a Montero (which is awesome), and a...... Jeep....

Anyways, we had a great time although a pine tree bit me when I was following the jeep. He seemed to enjoy leading me down pig trails lol. The day mainly consisted of washouts, a little mud, and a lot of sand.

It's not too bad, I'm having the paintless dent guy come out monday to work it out.20160206_160530.jpg 20160206_134600.jpg 20160206_123636.jpg 20160206_123830.jpg 20160206_135109.jpg

Cool pics.

So...the AF base had an abandoned tank? :screwy:

They hold war simulations all over the base. We found an airplane and a couple old GI backpacks in the woods. Spent blank casings everywhere. I guess it adds to the atmosphere when training ?

Rubber tracks?
Yea I noticed those too, I'm not real sure either.

Crawl up on anything?

Martin

Me or the blazer?! I crawled all over and in the tank, it was pretty dang cool.

As for the blazer, there were quite a few clay pits throughout the property, but you'll get fined if you get caught in there.

I think Martin was saying that if you crawl the truck over some really technical/slow stuff you might find that first gear and low range still isn't enough gear. i doubt you're going to find that to be the case wheeling in Fla. though.

This.

I have an SM465/NP203/NP205, and I wish I had an SM465/NP241/NP205, as I find myself wanting lower gears from time to time.

I wheeled BB03 with a 6.2, SM 465/NP205, 4.56's and 39.5's. I was OK with it, but the diesel is a huge factor in that. I did a ton of stuff with both feet flat on the floor and let the governor do the fine tuning.

Would you do half the 241 case or run the nwf black/eco box?

I see now. The most crawling I did was up a dried up Creek bed that had a ~8 ft elevation difference. Nothing like what you guys deal with I'm sure. 2nd and low range was plenty 99% of the time.

I think that in 1st I could get up just about anything without even patting the gas. Pretty much anything off idle the motor is tached wayyyy up

I did it again. Lol

Other than that, progress has stangnated greatly. I was about to pull the trigger on having it painted about a month ago, but i ended up having to use that money for adult things (ghey).

I have been focused on building my business and completing my bachelors degree (Spring 17). So that gets all of my time.

5.3/NV3500 are better than ever. Now that the Blazer is not my daily driver, I enjoy the hell out of it on the weekends.

Life is good. Thanks for the interest guys. :smile1:
