How many projects do you have? I have too many. But they are an honest hobby where you can meet some good people. This Blazer was initially bought for the drivetrain. It has 52K original miles. The New England climate and an unfinished suspension lift got the better of it, so, I purchased it for the drivetrain. Started pulling it apart and found the frame to be in good shape. Between that and reading about Trazers, the crazy idea to save it was formed. \

This is a picture of how it arrived.

This has actually been a 2+ year project. It is finally making some significant progress towards completion. It now has some 6" BDS lift springs in the front, 5" lift 64s in the back with a 2.5" ORD shackle flip in back. The frame was cleaned up and POR-15'd. The TC recieved a SYE. The CUCV 1 tons are under there with crossover steering. The front is done. The rear is still in the construction process. It is in there but the welding need to be completed.

Current state of affairs is the AC firewall is being grafted on to the CUCV cab. Still debating whether to build an off-road flat bed or make a bed out of the old 1/4s that are removable. Priority is to get it running at the moment.

Will try to get some more current pics of the project. Just wanted to share a K5 build story with people that might appreciate it. Any and all input is appreciated.

Technically I have 3 projects

2 of which are running but I am planning major work on, one of which still needs me to get some more money to finish the motor.

Have you seen my truggy (Horton) it has bedsides on it. I like the look alot better

so your plans are to put the regular cucv cab on it and make it a trazer? Gonna watch this, I have a 84 cab I'm considering picking up a blazer frame for. Subscribed

Do you have a link to bed set-up? I would definitely like to check it out. Thanks.

The cab is on there loosely (so we can work on the firewall). We have already made the rear cab mount for the cab. Last night we grafted the AC firewall onto it. Just have to do a little smoothing and painting for that now.

I have 2 projects and and they will probably always be projects in one form or another, I really want them to both be running projects :D

I would've thought you could just bolt the ac unit to the cucv firewall?

I may have missed it but is this gonna be a street legal trazer?
:woot:

At first they were hinged and looked like this

or this

In this pic you can see how we shortened them up, the wheelbase was decided so we just made the bedsides fit

I took them off after a couple times wheeling cause I was denting them up, thought about trashing them. When took my cab off it didn't look very nice and I still had the bedsides around so on they went.

They are just tacked onto the cage right now but I plan to do some major work to them. Make them removable and stuff

Here is a pic now, I put them back on because it looked stupid without them and it looks awesome with them on. just cut where I needed too and tacked them on.

I don't think I am as likely to dent them as much as I was because I am nearly 6" narrower where they start then I was when the cab was on

Here's some progress pics.

The first pic is of the rear 64s. They are 5" lift w. the 2.5" ORD shackle flip. You can also see the frame that was POR 15'd about 2 years ago.

The second pic is of the rear cab "Trazer" mounts.

The third pic is of the AC firewall grafted in.

The fourth pic is of the SYE for the 241.

The fifth pic is of the X over steering, front 6" BDS springs and extended bump stops.

What do you plan on doing for a bed?
I use to mess around with 3d models and here is my trazer idea

Still debating the bed. I like blazinzuk's hinged bed sides idea. I also like the off-road flatbeds that the ORD trucks have. I like your 3D version as well.

Running projects are :waytogo:. That is the current goal for this truck.

The stock non AC firewall had openings where it needed to be closed and was closed where it needed to be open for the AC unit. The heater hoses went it in in a different location as well

I'd like it to be street legal. It looks a little tall at the moment though.

Thanks for the links to the pics. Definitely food for thought. If you had it to do again, would you do anything different? I still cringe at the thought of bringing a fullsize K5 down some of the tight trails here. That must be why they called the GMC version a Jimmy .

More progess pics.

The first pic is of some H2 centers that I bored out for the hubs. Just wanted to see what they would look like really. Comments?

The second pic is of the ORD greasable shackles and poly bushings.

The third pic is of some general floor clean-up. The P-side and center console had some military specific items welded to the floors that were removed.

The fourth pic show what was one of the bigger hurdles for this project. The fuel system. The stock tank had a leak and the TBI lines looked a little scary. I replaced the tank and priced out some stainless TBI lines - OUCH. I found another set off another 89 Blazer and, between the two of them, put one set together. This involved a bench grinder/wire wheel for a surface cleaning. That was one of my least favorite jobs ever, trying to turn 6' pieces of tubing with multiple twist and turns. They came out nice though.

The fifth pic just shows one of the doors that we put on. Getting those lined up and opening/closing properly is almost a science.

You know that cab looks kinda familiar .

Glad to see that you're making some good progress. It's coming out nice.

The floors came out nice. They were solid and in good shape. Thanks for bringing the cab up here. It got this project jump started again.

Excellent progress. I like it.

It is kind of false progress though. I am just catching the thread up to my on/off again progress over the last two years. This rig was almost used as a drivetrain donor more than once. It keeps coming back into it though. Now that some of the taller challenges are taken care of, I am a little more excited about it again.

Yea other then a couple little spots it's in really good shape for coming off a cucv. No problem, it's always cool to meet another member. Proves that you're not the only crazy person with a major project :haha:.

Mines hopefully going to get a jump start this summer.
