89' Harsh rear ride off road

The driver's side shock has a small shadow of oil at the bottom of the body, maybe it's dead?

What about just disconnecting the rear shocks from the axle and drive it, if the shocks are good then there should be a noticeable difference without them.

So I just got back from the parking lot the rear bumps up, then settles nicely much better with the 360/80 shocks put on the rear. The front was kind of interesting. I put an old set of Bill Steen‘s back into the stock location instead of the auxiliary. Those are the ones I had to replace because the front end was so soft and wobbly seems like the skyjacker springs ride, much better than a tough country, if that’s possible the tough country 2 1/2 inch lift had three leaves the skyjacker has five.

No, the springs just may have a spring rate that causes it to buck.
That is definitely possible the skyjacker soft ride five leaf spring pack seems to ride much better than the tough country easy ride, three leaf spring pack
Both 21/2-3” lift with same shocks in same location
In order to get the tough country ezride front end not to buck I switched the 255/70 valved shocks to 360/80valving and that seem to work. the combination of the skyjacker soft ride and 360/80 seems to feel pretty good to me

Ok they definitely are working that was an interesting drive thanks
I think for what I want the 255/70 are just not a good combo with the TC springs

Unfortunately, my dilemma is I’m 1 to 5 hours where I go hunting or off-road so I need the suspension to safely get me to those spots then to work off road as well. Stephen from ORD mentioned that I might want to try the Fox 2.0.
Thanks for your help, and I can’t believe I didn’t think about just moving the front step for shocks to the rear that saved me from blindly purchasing a set

The suspension seems to work better when I had the shocks mounted in the auxiliary position instead of like these.

I have a question on the rear, the shock available up stroke looks shorter than the distances between the bump stops. have to also consider the bump stop compression.

Are those the normal rear shocks pictured ?

Instead of turning left in CA go a few move miles and turn left in AZ stop by for a visit, ammo is easier to get here, and we have desert to shoot in, or I am a member of the range here.

Thanks for pointing that out.
I noticed after SYE installed with 6º shims the axle tilted so dr side has a little room pass side not so much i am planing on having the guy thats putting on the new perches to do the shock mounts as well. I will measure them out corectly and get the right lengnth shocks.

I was just about to mention that. It looks like the shocks are bottoming out - notice how clean and shiny the shaft is on its entire length.

I wiped down the shafts with alcohol, so that is why they were clean. I took a couple photos I let the suspension hang overnight with no shocks on it. And I measured from the top of the post as opposed to center to give it a little extra room. Problem is these Bill Steen’s don’t quite cut it in the rear and the 380 valved shocks are way too short.

That axle will drop more during trail articulation than just hanging with only the weight of the axle and wheels/tires. I would find a spot to flex and measure before getting mounts burned in.
