89 K5 - Recon's 1 Ton Blazer

That video is bad-freakin-a.

I'm going to start using the MIG for busted bolts. Never considered using the washer for a base.

Sweet video, just to be a dick that wasn't MIG though, it was SMAW or Stick welding with something called Chronotron rod?

Oh yea I know that; all I have at home is a mig welder though.

use the mig all the time for this. work super.

and side note : hope that wasnt his good tourqe wrench he used as a breaker bar . :doah:

First off, 6 guys wrestling a d60 into an upstairs apartment is classic...:haha:

Secondly, use some cutting oil when drilling and slower drill speed... It'll make a world of difference...

AND remember the harder the metal, the slower the drill speed.

I've been drilling incanel bolts at work, **** makes titanium look like soft butter.
High speed die grinder with .125 cobalt ball file = loud as hell grinding, about 10 minutes per bolt! seriously!

Yay!

So yesterday some buds came over and they basically did 76.98322234% of the work to install my winch and winch mount/cradle/bumper thingy. The winch solenoid isn't mounted or wired up because this mount was made for a different winch. The winch I have was retarded cheap, $279 brand spanking new and I figured this would be an issue. It was also raining, so I didn't feel like messing with wiring in it. The clearance between the bottom of the radiator and the top of the winch is really tight, so I'll probably need to cut/fab/build/rig/duct tape/zip tie some way to mount it. But it's out of the living room, and on the truck.

Still need to trim the front fenders, it looks retarded with them sticking way down in front.

But, the big news is the bolt in the D60. The 2 easy outs that were stuck in it?????? Not in it no more! Troy (Lunatic) came over to help a brother out. It took about 3 1/2 hours of drilling/dremeling with all kinds of fancy attachments and bits to get them out. Let me tell you, he has a dremel kit to die for! An attachment or bit for anything! The rest of the bolt is still in the housing since he had to go home, but we (ok, he will, I just stand there wanting to itch behind my cast) will be finishing that up within the next week. Then I might be able to get these damn things under the Blazer! Once I get them under it, the major tear down can happen, because it'll be easier to do it out in the parking lot. I'll just do enough each day that I can still reassemble each night so the landlord will be none the wiser that I am working on my truck in the parking lot.

Good t hear...

Just be careful, you can get thrown out for breech of contract if the manager is a dick...

Im still laughing about the mystery leak on the tenant's porch below.....

Surely they thought it was the building oozing.....something wet.

Good stuff :haha:

Basically, we now have a fresh start on that bolt. Next weekend it may be out. Easy street from here. The power of a lunatic I tell ya.... :smokin2:

Hey, thanks again, Troy. I guess they are taking me to NTC with them in 3-4 weeks, broken hand and all.
So if we can get this thing handled I'd like to get the axle ready to go for when I get back.

Lunatic is the man

Troy (Lunatic) came over today..... And the bolt is out!

So now I have to get my a$$ in gear to get these things under the truck!

Thanks again, Troy!

Anytime.

So, no heat, no welder - Just a lunatic at the helm.

Today we simply re-centered the bolt and did a simple, standard extraction. I remember saying "80% when" and "20% if" the bolt were removed today..... I guess that's now a 100%.

Anyway, we re-centered the bolt and drilled all the way through to relieve tension on the bolt somewhat. Then stepped up from there with reverse extracting bits.

The final bit (before moving into extractors themselves) took a good grab and backed the bolt right out. Text book execution - Couldnt have ended any better at all, period. The D60 looks as if the bolt was naturally removed by impact or another tool.

The first thing I checked after it backed out (old habit) was the trophy. I looked to see if I was true vertical while drilling or at a slight angle. What you think is straight isnt always. I was centered on top and bottom though - One for the trophy cup.

The pic is crap - But getting a digital to actually focus on a bolt shank is apparently beyond my attention level. It doesnt even look centered - I had to shoot from an angle to get my cam to "beep beep". But you guys get the idea.

Axles in by next weekend - Isnt that what you said ?? :D

well, now that its out............. I have used a shop a few times before for EDM or metal disintegration where they basically burn the bolt out with an arc and leave the threads intact. It's not cheap, but at some point dollars are greater then your time, burns and ruined parts. IIRC I paid like $175 a hole.
