89 K5 - Recon's 1 Ton Blazer

It must have been the in-between times then. I've done that myself.

nice updates! I'm taking a trip out to New Mexico, I'd be so close damnit lol, but can't afford the extra drive or time. :( keep em coming, I've flat out stalled on my build. Work and sleep is my main purpose in life atm:frown1:

redo those wheels and do the normal wash with sopa and water crap, let em dry yadda yadda yadda.

but immediately after you lay the primer and its still tacky, lay down the paint. ryoken can tell you why but it works good.

Immediately? Like spray the primer then switch to the paint right away? I always thought you should wait 15-20 minutes. The reason the times between coats got screwed up is because I was trying to do too many things at once.

yeah spray the primer, complete the wheel. shake up the other paint can and spray away. its so damn hot lately anyways, its not like it matters. paint drys instantly.

i think it has something to do with the primer "mixing" with the paint. er somthinerother.

Build party at my place starting tomorrow morning at 0900 ish. I'm doing everything this weekend:
Shackle Flip
D60 Swap
14BFF Swap
1" Body Lift
37" IROKs

Send a PM or something to find out where I live if you want to come play. I live in Killeen, TX. Right now I plan on doing this over the course of 2 days. On the 4th I'm going to a gun show, maybe do some work on the 5th depending on weather and progress on the 2nd and 3rd. If it's raining I'm still gonna be working on it, I've put it off for far too long.

I think I have everything I need, but I'll know more once I start tearing it all down. I think I may need a real floor jack, but I may be ok with 2 bottle jacks and hi lift. I'll hit you up if I am in dire need of something you probably have.

For all the people who said they definitely would be here, not a single one showed up.

Front axle is ready to come out, truck is on jack stands and I painted my zero rates because I somehow forgot them when I was painting all the rest of the crap over the last few months. The only thing holding my axle in is the brake lines. Left the tires on so I could just roll that mother out.

I figured out why I have no articulation up front (besides the pro crap springs): My shocks are only one inch from maxed out at ride height. I lift the front end one side at a time with my hi lift in the front shackle, which is a piece of cake, and the front end hardly drooped at all. Very disappointing. I guess I will be replacing the shocks asap, and I'll be looking into some different 4" lift springs. Fan-phucking-tastic.

Oh yea, tried to start with the body lift, but the hitch was blocking the rear mount bolt holes. So that only took like 2 hours to get off, 2 of the bolts had pulled through the frame!!! And the rest were in horrible shape.

Then decided I would try the shackle flip, said phuck it when I broke a drill bit, and moved to the front axle. Everything went smooth, even the drag link popped out with only 2 hits with the sledge.

nice
like I said, I love this crap, wish my cousin would finish his really nice K20 that's been an engine away for the last 6+ years. The engine is done and in the garage lol. Wish I could have been there, but you have 2 more days to try and get a few things done.

On the rivets, an air chisel works good. Cut the heads off and pushed the shanks out. Some of the shanks take more work than others, they don't just pop out.

And with the shocks, you need some ford towers. Get all the travel you can :)

I do have a heavy jack - But if what I think the situation is....is.... It wont help.

But, Im "in" if I can get there soon enough - Ill show up either way. I can even drop the jack tonight so it's there in the morning if desired.

Im more concerned with the current location of the axles though :dunno:.

Kind of pissed at myself right now. Landlord bitch called this morning. Pretty much gave me the old **** you, you can't work on your ****, blah blah blah.

Came home from work, stupid hot today. Hooked up my drag link, damn near need to trim a little, but I think it'll work the way it is.

So the part I am really pissed about is the way I half assed the wheel studs. Tried hammering them in, just couldn't do it. Used a 4' cheater pipe on my breaker bar, broke two 3/8-1/2 adapters and then broke my 1/2 Craftsman ratchet. Went to Lowes, got a new adapter for free since it was a Kobalt. Went to Sears and they rebuilt my ratchet because they didn't have any to give me. Works like it's brand new and still the same dinged up body. I've had it for about 15 years, and this is it's first service.

Once I got the rotors to sit the way I wanted them to with the wheels studs fully seated, I started to back the lugs off to put the wheels on. Those studs took a beating in my overzealous tightening. The hubs took a beating. The lug nuts have died.
I knew I should have brought the studs, hubs, rotors to a shop and had them properly pressed in. Then I wouldn't have ****ed up 16 brand new lug nuts. Then I wouldn't have dicked the threads on 16 studs, with one of them being questionable in continued service.

Money wasted. Lessons learned. Half assed. Cutting corners. Normally I am not like this. Normally my type of work is do it right the first time so you don't have to do it a second time. Been a bit depressed lately, and tried to get this thing moving much too quickly. I should have done it better. Next time I will.

Sounds like this heat is getting you frustrated dude. I know the feeling. I usually wait until winter to do things like this. Anyway, when I replace wheel studs, I usually just knock them in with a sledge and a punch as far as they'll go without damaging anything, and when I tighten the lug nut up to 115 ft./lbs. (or whatever they call for) when I'm putting the wheel back on, the stud usually finishes tightening itself up (pulling through) with no problem. I think you may be trying too hard. It can be stressful to work on your junk while living at an apartment. I've been there too. The thing to do is get in good with your land lady. Be nice and offer to do something for her. She'll understand, unless she's a total Beoch.

Tie rod not in yet, brakes not hooked up yet. Still need to grind the calipers and a little off the ears for the wheels to fit properly. Had to get it off jack stands, people were throwing a fit. Land lord was happy that it's on all 4 tires now. Will be moving it to my buddies house in the next few days so I can finish it there.

Going to Waco tomorrow to hang with my club CenTexOffroad. Going to eat at Hooters and make fun of each other. Trying to get a trailer from one of them so I can safely move the Blazer. Might get some done this weekend, but I'm going drinking tonight.

any updates since moving it? man that's got to be a bitch, not having it close to work on little by little. Feel for you man, keep it up and feed the masses with sweet juicy updates!

I know, I've been a complete tard on the updates.

We moved it a week and a half ago-ish. This past weekend we put in the shackle flip, but ran into issues with the spring eye bushings being that weird 1.7" size so I had to order those up from ORD. We took some pics, but the camera is in the Blazer in Waco. Should have the bushings in on the 5th according to UPS, and this weekend we plan on getting the 14 bolt in and the perches welded on after we set the pinion angle.

The biggest issue is that my buddies place is an hour away, and the shop doesn't have a/c. When it's 100+ outside, it really blows ass. We take a lot of water breaks.
