89 k5 Trazer build "The Dirty Girl" *Tubed front/taper, full hydro steer*

when u shaved ur rear did u get into the gasket surface? i read an article once about shavin 1 and they had to modify, so diff cover would seal. i didnt like that idea.

i planing same EXACT thing this summer...kert will be gettn my bus. also, all the same parts + a set of his tube doors! not sure about the b52s yet, not sure i know all i know about it....moving axel and what gives me what lift?...prolly stock replacement springs and kerts wraptor and backbone!

u keep talking about removing a spring from front pack....why not take out overload, u dont need it up front do ya?

is it just me or does rear of cab look saggin adding to the illusion that truck is lower in the rear?

great job....this build thread is 1 he77 of a motivater...thanks and keep it coming, so i can copy :-)

There is still plenty of gasket surface. The axle has been filled up for a few weeks now and there are no leaks. Although I will need to hit the bottom with the grinder again because the mounting ring for the truss, hangs down just a little bit.

How ironic, I would also like to get a set of his tube doors. Whatever questions you have about the 52" spring swap feel free to send me a pm. I did a lot of reasearch before tackling that project.

Actually I am thinking that I will leave the front pack alone and adding a leaf or two to the rear pack. Later when I convert to full hydro I will remove the overload and use an ORD zero-rate to move the front axle 1.5"s more forward.

I'm sure that the cab is not sitting right. There are only three mounts right now. The rear mounts are new poly bushings, the driver's side middle mount needs a new bushing cause it spit one out on my last wheeling trip. And I still havnt gotten around to installing the front bushings

Thanks for the comments ;) I'm hoping to have this thing trail ready by memorial day weekend 2008

Well I actually got some stuff done to the truck this weekend. With the help of a bunch of friends we got my brother's project out of the garage and got my truck into the garage. My buddy took some pics while we were moving it, I still need to get them from him though.

While it was in there I installed my new high pressure power steering hose and cut the lower "fangs" of the front fenders so they aren't hitting the tires anymore.
Also here's a pic of the np-205 I will be swapping in:

and here's the np-203 that I will be using for the low range box:

You know it's nearly a year since you started this thread right? Would ya hurry up and spend some more money for us? I mean... well... take more pics. :>

Here's some pics my friend snapped while we were playing musical trucks.

This came out of the garage:

Now Im wondering why you kept all that high dollar hardware out in the snow for the POS on the pallet?:D

why did you guys cut up the crewcab??
That was my brother's trail rig project (he has since decided to do a k-5).

Plans were double-triangulated 4-link rear, 56" springs in the front with zero-rate moving the axle an additional 1.5"s. drw d60 front 5.86 gear, d70hd rear 5.86 gear, converted to rear steer with dana 70 inner c's and knuckles (which he already has) full hydro 4-wheel steer. 454 running on propane, th400, atlas II, h1 wheels and 42" tsls.

He also planned to tube the backhalf and front clip was to be replaced with tube, an exocage would tie the front and rear together.

Well not much of an update, but here goes: I was sick over most of christmas break so I only managed to mount the last Swamper. But I got two goodies for christmas.

I got this K&N air filter. It has a 4" opening. I plan on mounting it under the dash board on the passenger side. We are gonna make something to replace the air cleaner and then have a piece of 4" tubing, possibly exhaust tube, running from there into the firewall to connect to the filter.

I also got a new emblem for the truck :)

It's a piece of 1/4" aluminum that was waterjet cut. I think I may mount it on the dash later. This weekend's project is to pull out the np-241 t-case and we gotta run to the pick-n-pull to get a wagoneer dana 44 for my friend's XJ project.

I like the Trazer emblem

Hijack

muddermilitia, I was down by where you live on the 22nd, I had to drive down to O'Hare (now my least favorite airport )

I like sitting there in baggage claim waiting for my uncles flight to come in and they had only like 20 chairs and the only place to get something to drink was starbucks. Ya I like milwaukees airport better.

when you do the b52...do you have to move the shackles or could you use a hole further back on the front spring mount?
You could use 56" long springs with the b52s and you won't have to move the shackle mount. As far as using different holes in the brackets, I'm not too sure on that one. Ya might want to talk to Kert (cyberfire) about that. He should know.

how far does the b52 w/56'' leaves move the axle forward, also iirc it depends on which way you turn the spring...
With 56"ers in the front you have to mount them with the long side rearward, otherwise you will be pushing the axle back. With the b52 it should be moved 2-2.5"s depending on what set of holes you use

thanks man, looks like i may have 56'' front and back.....how do you figure your lift? will 56''/6''lift rear spring still be 6'' when used up front? another option would be to drop spring hanger/longer shackles w/2'' spring up front....i just found out about lowering spring mount, and will have to compare prices, but i think that and 2'' spring would ride/flex better than just a 6'' spring.

I know the general consensus is that using a stock 52 or 56" spring in the front nets you 4-5"s of lift, so a 6" lift spring in the front is probably gonna be around 10"s of lift.
